Customer Questions & Answers

could you tell me approximately how many of these boards I would need to cover 462 sq ft ?

Asked by: mike
Recommend consulting a contractor or the Pro Desk the local retailer, they will be able to provide you with the answer. Thanks, Caryn Trex Customer Service

How do you hide the grooved edge?

How do you hide the grooved edge where the decking is used on stairs and the first board of the deck? We bought the 12' boards, but don't see anything to cover the grove.
Asked by: sumunorm
Cut the groove end off using a table saw, then use the saw set on bevel or a hand plane to knock off sharp edge. Make sure to space material properly so theres enough to work with, ie reveals.

How wide are these boards?

Asked by: Anonymous
It can vary by board. Very frustrating that all lengths come in different widths and thicknesses. Makes it hard to install with clean, neat looking joints

Composite Decking Trex Beach Dune Grooved (Common: 1 in. x 5-1/2 in. x 12 ft.; Actual:  1 in. x 5.5 in. x 144 in.) is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from My new trex I'm having issues. I created a perimeter with one color. Cut around the posts. Angle cut ends perfect fit looked fantastic, our temperature dropped to 65, and the boards shrunk 1/4 inches and the corners look terrible Nowhere I find that this board has that much shrinkage. 2 boards are ruined and not paying another $50,00 to replace 16' boards I need help on how to continue this install on not shrinking and expanding that much, I like one to call me to help me

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice looking but widths and thicknesses are not standardized I purchased Trex composite decking for a 220 sf deck I am building. I installed the first layer of decking boards in a picture frame, and I am intending to use 8' lengths and 12' lengths to get my desired look. When I started butting up the joints between the 8' lengths and 12' lengths, I noticed that the 8' length boards were about 1/16" wider and about 1/16" thicker than the 12' length board. It is very frustrating spending a good chunk of change on a product that has such variable tolerances in their boards. I've built decks for years with EverGrain products and never had an issue, and regret buying this product. On the plus side, I spent the time to shave down the product on the backside so the joints line up, and the deck does look nice...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love our deck We've had our deck for two years now and it still looks like new. The deck hasn't faded at all and we simply hose off any spills. We chose the Trex railing in white as well and couldn't be happier. Our home is on a walking path and never fails to get comments from people walking by. We've been so pleased with the quality that we're considering the Trex furniture next.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought this product about 4 years ago. Bought this product a few years ago and wished I never would have. The railing is the only good thing that is holding up. The color faded after one year and it promotes algae and mold even in the sun. Very disappointed in this product for what I paid.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not such a great product. My deck is 10 years old. It holds mold, is faded and discolored. Not such a great product. My Trex deck is only 10 years old. It is in full sun during the day. It holds mold and mildew and is faded and discolored with a cloudy white haze from discoloration. This product is not performing as the advertisement claims. The only good thing about the deck is there are no wooden splinters or warping.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, sound anchoring system TREX system was impressive. Was surprised that the composite boards were not always 'true.'

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No way to finish the edge! I have contacted Home Depot twice about how to finish the grooved edge of this decking and have not gotten a response. I also wrote to Trex about this issue. They responded that I should use a 5/4 piece of wood to finish the edge, well that blows the whole idea of putting down a composite deck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy but tedious install I never used the groove and anchor system before. Although it looks incredible it does take a little longer to install. But once you're done its a wonderful product to look at. I re-did my old porch and put down these boards. Impressive new look. 2-yrs old now and still looking new.
