Answer:
Thank you for your question. While we’ve done submersion testing with Trex, we could not warranty this application as we do not know the long term effects. Thank you, Jodi Trex Customer Service

Answer:
I assume you mean "submersed" in water.
Unless TREX has changed the formulation lately it is a polymer + wood composite. I would not recommend immersion in water. All of the TREX or other wood composite decking I have seen is susceptible to mold. The degree depends on the humidity and temperature where you live.

Answer:
30 Boards. If you have a deck 10' wide with approx 1/2" per board of spacing (1/4" spacing between each), then you need 20 boards to cover the witdh. Each of those 20 rows needs to be 24' long. 20 x 24 = 480. 480/16' per board is 30 boards. Plus a few for do-overs.

Answer:
In hot sunny weather TREX can get very hot and act like a wet noodle. I would recommend 12" joist spacing. Try to look at other TREX decks that have about the same amount of sun. Best of luck. Let us know what you find.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this composite decking We had the Trex Beach Dune installed 3 1/2 years ago with the Trex universal fasteners, and it is holding up extremely well. It looks like real cedar! Yes, it does get hot in the sun, but so did the wood deck we had previously. You don't get splinters with the composite decking. I would never go back to a wood deck after having this Trex composite deck, as there is no maintenance. The color has not faded at all since we had it installed, and it hasn't warped either. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Used this product on a new deck on the river side of my home. Looks great. August 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by outstanding value Great product, very resonable price, beautiful color, looks great after completion of deck June 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by POOR QUALITY PRODUCT We installed 3000 ft of decking aprox 5 year ago. 50 percent of he decking is stained, faded, and is turning to sawdust. we are going to have to remove over half of this product and replace it. I can assure you it will not be with Trex. A poor product that the company will not stand behind. July 8, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the greatest product I purchased enough Trex decking for a 400 square foot deck. During the building process I was met with warped boards and most were not the specified 12 foot. Many were 12' 1/4 inch and a few less than 12 foot by as much as a 1/4 inch. The warping issue was the worst to deal with. It required using bar clamps to pull the boards into alignment...a serious time consuming problem. May 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Never Again Decking in the sun just bakes. Gets so hot you cannot sit on the deck or walk barefoot. I am in the process of tearing the plastic wood out and going to real wood! My neighbor told me the plastic got too hot ! Hope he never reads this. He was right !!! June 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Instant beauty Initial worries about the flexibility of the material using 16" centers were unfounded. Also whether the material would stand up to spike heals. Both were no problem. The hidden fastener system turned out to be wonderful and the 1/4" spacing perfect for looks and drainage. The only issue left is longevity. However the 25 year warranty seems to address that concern as Trex should be around for a long time. One star deducted for high cost. January 20, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good stuff! Overall I am please with this product. My only concern is with some minor warping. I didn't expect that a manufactured decking product would have any warping. However, it is easy to straighten out during installation. August 26, 2014
