Customer Questions & Answers

is the post cap available for purchase by itself (without the post)? If so, where can I find/order?

Asked by: George
Hello. The post caps for fencing may be purchased separately. Your dealer may place an order through their distributor. Thanks, Maureen- Trex Customer Service

I only see the 6' tall fence kits advertised. Can I order 8' tall fence kits from Home Depot?

I also have a sloping yard and would like the top, level for the entire 80 feet for more privacy and bottom would thus slope downward. So I could start at 6' tall at one end to 8' at the other end.

Can this be used as a sleeve over a wooden 4x4 post?

It'll go over a 4x4 no problem.

If attached to a mesh awning and under pressure, will this post warp over time like a 4x4?

I have 2 4x4 posts on my deck that come up through the middle of my composite post sleeves attached to the deck. These posts extend an additional 4 or 5 feet up for the attachment of a mesh awning. Over the past couple of years these wooden posts have become warped. (There are 2 that used to be parallel, now they are not and the difference is obvious.) My thought is to slide the 5x5 composite post over the 4x4 allowing it to disguise and eradicate the warping of my wood posts. The eye bolts I connect the awning to would remain in the wooden posts. My question is this, following this procedure to eliminate the warping and warped appearance, would the 5x5 composite posts lend enough support and resilience to prevent warping in the future? Thanks!
Asked by: Volash
After working with the material, I do think that any kind of constant force on the top half of the post, like a cantilevered awning or a fabric tension shade screen would slowly warp the post. I do think they will not warp with fence panels installed per their instructions. As for going over warped 4x4's. The actual inside dimension of 4"x 3-3/4" means that your 4x4 can not be out of level by more than 1/2" at the most if you want these posts to cover up their warped appearance and if you were not going to apply an uneven force to the top of the post and simply wanted to install this over your deck post to clean things up, I would recommend cutting the warped wood posts down at 12" above the deck and bolting these posts to the wood at their base.

use post to cover water spickits

could I cut the top of the post off at an angle, put a hinge on it making it, so you can open the top up. I would like to use it to cover insulated water spickits, which are at different heights. Can I get more caps. That way the water pipe is insulated in the field and covered and when I want to use the hose bib I open it up. Could I use this product for that purpose.
Asked by: smokey
Thanks for your question. The caps can be purchased separately. The installation that you are suggesting is not something we have tested for. Thanks, Gina Trex Customer Service.

What is the inside dimension of the fence post. I want to put it over existing steel posts and attach to them.

Asked by: BillG
The true inner dimensions I had on the two Trex posts I ordered are 4" x 3 3/4". To fit over my 4" square galvanized steel gate posts, I had to rip the Trex posts in half and skim the inside faces to get the 4" clear I needed for the steel posts. Then I glued the two halves over my steel posts and with the through bolt hinges, and gate panel in place, the final look is as good as I had hoped for. See the pictures.

Customer Reviews

Seclusions 5 in. x 5 in. x 9 ft. Woodland Brown Wood-Plastic Composite Fence Post with Crown Post Cap is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top notch posts These posts are designed to work independently however I used them to slide over existing 4x4 p.t posts. I was willing to pay the cost to never have to paint the posts again. These posts slide nicely over the 4x4s with a quarter inch to breath. The posts look amazing and will hopefully stay that way. I did not use the traditional Trex fencing system but designed my own fence using Trex boards with 2 x 6 stringers between the posts. I'm old school and when it comes to fencing I still want solid wood for my screws to bite into. That being said the maintence free surface of this product made it worth the extra cost over just lumber.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but worth it for the long run I purchased these posts to replace an old wood fence. I decided to use the 9 foot length and not pour concrete to hold them in. I had to dig out another foot to fit them in, but they are holding up really well and look great. The fence is sturdy and best of all I won't have to do anything for probably 30 years. The fence ended up about twice the cost of wood, but not having to worry about the fence is worth it.
