Customer Questions & Answers

How long will it last after applying, and when should we reapply, 3 years, 5 years? Can it be diluted with water?

Asked by: momof3
3-5 years. Then recoat once. Do not dillute, there's no need. Stir while applying for best results.

I want to know the same question as the previous customer. How many years does this last before it needs to be redone?

How many coats should you apply the 1st time??
Asked by: Sandee
3-5 years, wash surface well then easy recoat. Lasts 10-20 years indoors, like in a log cabin. One to two coats, with 4 hour dry time in between. Thin coats. Old wood takes more due to crack expansions. Works well to seal wood before applying paint.

I loved the way it went on. instead of the wood turning gray with age it is a nice shade of brown. looks great.rain doesn't puddle like other sealants. it seems to let the moisture permeate the wood. of course it is going to need resealing now and again but I don't mind. it is so much easier to apply that it is now a simple job. a very light power washing to remove stains and time to apply another coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy With Performance We built a completely wooden sustainable house in the tropical rainforests of a Belize ecovillage. Rainy season is amazingly humid and the rains are brutal when they hit. Rainy season lasts 8 months. Dry season is really, really hot and the sun is harsh. The environment is tough here. We imported Lumber-Seal and sprayed it on our initial shed and eventually our to our house. We can certainly see the beaten parts that we missed. It's kind of embarrassing. It hasn't even been a year in these harsh conditions, and the Lumber-Seal portions are unscathed, and the unprotected parts are battered. The stuff doesn't smell like chemicals either, which is a bonus. There's no smell when dry. It keeps the natural hugh of the wood, though it does make it richer in the natural color. A little goes a long way too - especially when sprayed. One must just cover up when spraying it on. It's sticky at first, then in these humid conditions takes a few days to dry. I am sure it would dry way faster in dry season. Laundry takes a week to dry in wet season. Nonetheless, I would certainly recommend this stuff to the rest of my village. It's certainly an ecovillage staple, I'd say.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everyone should use this No VOCs and non-toxic attracted me to this product. Too soon to give a long-term opinion. Seems to soak in and cover as I wanted. Application can be a challenge for a vertical fence since product is very watery. A good quality 3" brush worked best for me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy This stuff is the worst you can get. I bought 5 gal to put around my pool deck. IIt looked real good after it dried. Did not have enough to finish it though, so I bought another 5 gal. After it all dried, it looked just great. I was very happy with it. After about 6 months in the sun, it started turning. I thought it might be alright. Boy, was I wrong. My deck looks like it is molded. It looks terrible. The only place that still looks good is where the sun does not shine on it. I can only hope that this summer that a good paint will stick to it. Which I really hate. It will cost me over $5,000.00 to replace it. That is material alone. I think Home Depot or the Mfg should do something about this. I may have just got a bad batch. It is raining right now or I would take pic's to upload. Do not buy this stuff. Next time I will stick to Thompsons Water seal.
