Product Overview

This Clear Finger Joint Primed Pine is a perfect product for many uses, especially for painting. Some of the many uses are fascia, corner boards, trim base molding, furniture parts, shelving, cabinets etc. It is pre-primed for your convenience with two coats of high quality factory applied primer. There are no knots to bleed through your final top coat of paint, making this a great product for painting. It is recommended that you top coat with a high quality latex paint for years of dependability. This Clear Finger Joint Primed Pine can be used for interior and exterior uses, separating it from many other products. It also has better stability than many fake wood products. Also, if you later decide to change the color, it repaints better than most fake wood products.

Can this board be used as a back board nailed to drywall and studs to hang barn door hardware?

Can this board be used as a back board nailed to drywall and studs to hang barn door hardware?
Asked by: Chuck
Yes, kind of. This is pine and pine is a soft wood. Depending on the weight of the doors you should probably insure that the hardware is also screwed through the pine and into studs.

What am I doing wrong?

I purchased this product because of its suitability for exterior applications, does not warp, does not have knots and is ready to paint. I installed this after painting with Behr's best exterior paint and after only one year, the paint and primer are peeling off in small sheets. And, the finger joints have swelled or separated so that I am having to sand, fill and repaint. I want to make sure I am doing this right so I don't have to do this again for at least a few more years.
Asked by: MustyRusty
I'm not sure it has anything to do with this particular type of lumber but I had a similar experience with Behr exterior paint. I chose it to use on my whole house exterior paint job and in just a little over one year the paint is peeling all over the house just as shown in your picture. I bought the paint which was also Behrs best exterior grade and had a professional painter prep and paint the home so I am out a lot of money due to this paint. I really don't understand why it gets such high marks in consumer reports.

Trim Board Primed Finger-Joint (Common: 1 in. x 6 in. x 8 ft.; Actual: .719 in. x 5.5 in. x 96 in.) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice stuff Specs clearly say it is 5.5 inches. That's what a 1x6 means. Primed and you cannot even tell that it is finger jointed. No knots to worry about. Easy to work with and 2 coats of paint makes it look great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best choice for painted trim work For any indoor painted project that requires one by pine I prefer the finger-jointed products. It's always clear (no knots), it's pre-primed, warpage is at a minimum and it's less expensive. Cut to size, add two coats of paint and you're done. Great product in any size or style.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cracked in edges Some of these boards were cracked in the edges in some longer areas.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really 6 inches It's labeled here, there, everywhere as 6 stinkin inches. It's really 5.5. I get that on "lumber" but semi-finished stuff has caused me to make another trip. Thanks for that, shame on me.
