Can you get extentions to make it longer?
Asked by: Jm
I don't know the answer to that question, sorry. We were concerned when we first got it that it wasn't long enough. However, if it were longer, it might be harder to manage. Think about the motion needed to raise it as far as it will go, then pull it back towards the ground. You want the motion smooth to not waste energy. What we found was that we had big enough snow piles around the house that the next day (after the snow had crusted up a bit that night) we could stand on the snow piles and reach another couple of feet of snow that remained on the roof.

i love this roof rake, but the handle often freezes and makes it impossible to extend or collapse without thawing it with my hairdryer. is there anything i can spray on it...like silicone or wd 40 that won't make a mess on my gloves? i actually bent the metal support trying to collapse the rake. other than that it works great!
Asked by: emanon
Didn't experience this issue at all. If you put the lubrication on the sliding part only and not the main handle your gloves shouldn't get dirty. Would probably use WD 40 if I was going to use anything.

The holes in the poles that hold it in the retracted position were deformed and oblong causing the poles to jam when trying to extend it. Looks like during manufacturing they miss-drilled the hole locations and used a punch to elong the holes to get it to lock in the retracted position. Poor quality control! Home Depot was excellent as usual and returned it no questions asked!

Details: I brought it home, pulled it out of the box, and tested the extension. The big yellow buttons seemed like a good idea! I pushed the big yellow buttons again to collapse the rake. One button got stuck and won't pop out. I tried some light percussive maintenance on the sides and back to convince it to unstick but it's still stuck good. The big yellow buttons no longer seem like a good idea. Back to the store it goes.

Mine came with 2 aluminum stabilizer pieces for either side of the shovel part that were too long, and one bolt that a screw could not enter. There weren't any extra bolts. So I used it with one stabilizer, which fell off after about 30 minutes. Luckily the center pole held. It does work, but I spent about an hour trying to get the stabilizer pieces attached. Agree with another poster that the assembly instructions are inadequate. As a 105 lb. woman I found it heavy and unwieldy, but I don't think there is any way to get around that and also have a product that is strong enough to do the job. It's a good thing that the shovel part is plastic because I accidentally hit a window once. Luckily the window didn't break.

The handle/extension is very strong and sturdy, It has an excellent gripping surface, just wish the extension was a little longer. The rake itself is still plastic but it seems to be a thicker, stronger type than ones we've purchased in the past. We have recently purchased this item but so far it has lived up to our expectations of removing the huge amounts of snow we had to rake off our roof tops here in Central Maine especially after our recent blizzard.

Using this on a metal roof to help keep the snow from sliding off along with the gutters. Wish it would have been in stock at the local stores. It does the job quickly and seems like it is well built. The handle is coated with a no slip grip material. There was only once when I was able to test it on new snow but it also worked on the snow pile that was there from a previous storm before it came. It took a little more effort to get the older snow off but sliding it back and forth a little loosened it right up. The scoop is curved so once you get it up to the spot you want it starts to dig right in. Fortunately our house is only one story so it's super easy to reach and could probably do the whole roof if needed. I would buy this product again if needed but it seems like it's going to last many winters without any issues.

Didn't get a real chance to use it, bought at the end of the season but was able to pull the last snow off my roof. I've used others in the past and like how sturdy it is, bends a little but much less than round poles. I also really like the that it telescopes down into one piece, making storing and keeping it together really nice.
