What has True Temper done about the rivet problem on the metal scraper edge? (Rivets consistently wear and pop off very quickly!)

Great question. Mine came off the first season and the rest of the shovel started to break apart. Should have returned it when it happened.

Its too bad because it moves alot of snow, but it just doesnt hold up. It will still move snow without the scraper, but the plastic gets thinner and thinner to the point where it gets so thin that the shovel cracks and is useless. It is not a good scraping shovel since the rivets wear out and the plastic will wear out. I wish I could buy the lower half of the shovel since I now have 3 handles. Read Less

I've had my SnoBoss for about 3 years and never had an issue with the rivets coming off. The blade is still on my shovel and we've had some bad winters with several feet of snow in one day. This shovel has saved my back. The only thing I'd like better is if the blade was sharper and can scrape wet/sticky snow down to the pavement to prevent the driveway from icing over. Works fine on fluffy snow as is. Read Less

Answer:
You are 100% correct. The metal strip on my shovel lasted half the winter before the rivets just wore out. I don't know about any plans to correct the problem but I do know that the shovel is not worth buying. It's a shame too, because otherwise it is a good design. "Don't buy it." is my advice

Answer:
The wear strip design was improved to prevent the rivets from making contact with the surface while shoveling.

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 106 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic snow shovel but plastic falls apart quickly Easiest snow shovel I have every operated. Simply push-plow and toss. Unfortunately the metal lip on the plastic shovel came off the first season and the rest of the plastic shovel slowly started to disintegrate. It is all but useless now on year 4. I have been trying to find a replacement shovel. After all it comes in two pieces and assembly is required so I should be able to find a replacement shovel and avoid buying it all over again. I have had no success so far in finding a replacement part. I have had cheaper snow shovels last much longer. Shame. March 25, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rivets Fail in Short Order This is a great shovel for the first couple of uses and then the rivets wear down and the metal scraper blade comes loose and falls off. When this happened to me I put it back on with small carriage bolts and locking nuts. My bolts have lasted much longer than the original rivets but now the blade itself is wearing down on both edges to the plastic. I was hoping to find a replacement piece but I haven't been successful in finding one.so I guess I'll have to make one. I must say that when the shovel works, it works well but it was not made to last. I went out to take pictures of the Snoboss just now and found that one of the two replacement end bolts is missing, This must have happened this morning during my shoveling activity because they were all there last night when I checked the shovel for readiness. See my pictures. March 4, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Makes shoveling easier Great price and opted for store pickup. Shovel is great ergonomically... Snow still does not shovel itself though :-) March 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Why can't all companies and products be this good? This is a special purpose shovel. I don't use it as much as my Rugg Backsaver. I shovel a real lot of snow and when I need it, this shovel is indispensable. It is unique, nobody makes anything else like it. Pushing, scraping, and moving giant chunks of snow, it's unbeatable. Ergo design lets you use both arms. Not great for tossing snow but that's not what I have this one for. See the photo. When you get those big piles of packed snow, I chop a giant chunk of it loose with this thing. Then I ram the blade underneath and pry the chunk off the ground and drag it to get rid of it. I have moved hunks weighing at least 100 lbs, easily, like pushing a baby carriage. Work that would have taken hours is done in a few minutes. It is also great for lighter snow storms where you have a lot of area to clear. I push it along and all the snow gets scraped up and accumulates in the scoop. Then, when I get to the end of the driveway I can either lift and dump or just tilt it to unload if I have room for that. After a year of abusing this thing, I wore the metal edge out. I emailed Ames/TrueTemper. They sent me 4 new edges ups, a day or two, no cost at all to me. Couldn't be easier. John, Massachusetts March 5, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by This shovel could be great This was the best shovel I ever used. I even cleared my driveway and walks faster with this shovel than with my 26 inch snowblower! Then it fell apart the third time I used it! The metal edge on the front of the shovel that clears everything clean came off due to the rivets shearing off from the bottom! My driveway is newly paved and perfectly smooth so the shovel never got hung up on any obstructions to shear the rivets. I will try to exchange it and give it one more chance if there are any left. So I will recommend it with caution for now. February 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best snow moving device ever. You need one These things are amazing. they put regular snow shovels to shame. You can shovel, push, scrape, pull, and God only knows what else. It's like a manual snow blower, only better, because you can scrape out corners. I now own 3. 2 to actually use, and 1 for backup because I'm afraid Tru Temper will quit making them (since they actually work for their intended purpose) It's big, so don't expect to fit it into small spaces, and if you have health issues, it's big, so therefore heavy when filled with snow. Flip side of that is it's much easier to slide snow around than to dig and throw it! December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I recommend it Pretty good shovel, good price too, the shipping to store was good February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I really like these shovels. It made quick work of foot deep snow on our sidewalks. Thanks I really like the quality build of this shoves. It is for getting rid of a lot of snow in a hurry February 10, 2016
