CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 26 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very very happy with the insert I was very shy to order the insert w/o actually seeing it in person, but Home Depots return policy gave me confidence to do it. I am very happy with the quality and price. I saw some 2-3 times the price. Home Depot even gave me free delivery and a 10% veterans discount. I was most afraid of the fan noise, but even on high, the dial speed fan is very quiet. FYI, the metal surround plates extend 9 1/4" high and wide to close in the gap between the insert and the fireplace. Have used it many times. It heats up my large livingroom well. Because most of it is in the fireplace and the fan is electric, you can't count on it much in a power failure, therefore order a free standing stove outside a firebox. June 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very very happy with it! Installed it 2 weeks ago and have been using it in my vac house. Am very happy with the quality for the price. As good as one I paid twice as much for in the fall for my other home. HD even honored my 10% military discount for the online purchase. The side panels are 9 1/4" wide and the fan is dial adjustable and great. My fears of the online purchase were erased by this great deal. As warned, the first burn creates a smell. Either burn the first time outdoors or open all the windows. A happy customer. Dave in Massachusetts May 5, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by For a minimal price an excellent secondary heat source Install was done by chimney guy. He liked the product and now is going to recommend to his costumers looking for a good smaller sized stove insert. It puts out some serious heat. The fan is a bit noisy but it helps circulate air. A ceiling fan would do this also. Bought it after "Sandy" left us without power and a huge cold snap after. Will not have to worry about a cold house now April 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good wood stove Ordered this wood stove online and it's shipped free of charge to my local HD. This is a small stove but it's exactly what we wanted to heat our big living room. The stove is not very heavy, my wife and I carried and put it in the open fireplace very effortlessly. I installed the 6" SS chimney liner a week before so installation of the stove was very fast -- connected the flute, sealed the joins with furnace cement, covered the rest of open fireplace with the face-plate and that was it. We waited for it to get cold and fired up the stove. It puts out a lot of heat for the small amount of wood we put in. My 1000 square-boot living room stays at 75 and the two adjacent bed rooms is about 70. I burn everything that is wood including a lots scrap pine from the house renovations. I plan to sweep my chimney every other month so creosote doesn't really bother me that much. There is absolutely no smoke/smell inside the house and very little smoke comes out the chimney. So I am very happy with the Stove, my gas furnace hardly turns on anymore. Cons: The screws for the face-place and the fan are not the right size. Use a small metal drill bit to widen the holes first. Firebox is small, cut/split your wood short/small Pros: Good value, free shipping, light/easy to install, very good looking, efficient. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Solid Wood Stove Insert The US Stove model 22001 fireplace insert is a very good wood burning heater. Like so many claims of products sold today, you have to take with a grain of salt. The claimed BTU output and the total heating area are inflated. Even the EPA card that comes with the stove shows a BTU rating less than half the advertised rating by US Stove. But then maybe the stove is able to achieve the advertised rating with some kind of wood that most of us do not have available! With red or white oak firewood the stove puts out good heat. It took me about a week to get the formula correct for the most heat from the least wood. The wood needs to be dry; aged for at least a year outside with a cover on the top. Fresh cut wood is difficult to burn. Also it is best to cut the wood about 16 to 17 inches long. Anything longer and you will have to stick one end around the edge of the door opening for it to fit inside. The cavity is small! I have discovered that one needs to have a good bed of hot coals before adding logs. I have found that splitting logs into smaller sizes burns better. About a 3-4 inch wide piece of wood works best. When starting a fire, open the damper full to the right. Use very thin pieces of soft wood (kindling) to start the fire. I use a triggered propane torch to light mine. With the door barely cracked open, let the kindling get a good burn going until it starts to make coals; then add larger pieces of wood and close the door. I have three different types of wood. Kindling, pieces about 1 to 2 inches, and logs about 3-4 inches. Once you have the logs burning for 1/2 hour, turn on the fan. For hotter output leave the damper all the way open. For a warmer, longer burn close the damper some. I usually close the damper about 1/3 to 1/2 during the day and all the way at night. The more the damper is open, the more wood used. With the damper about 3/4 open I use about one 3-4 inch X 17 inch log every hour. At night I can load about 3 logs in it and it will put out heat for about four hours. There are still hot coals in the morning, but no heat. I believe that heat from the stove would fill the room better if the 150 CFM fan were boosted up to a 200 or so CFM fan. I installed this stove in an existing fireplace that used three times as much wood and put out even less heat. I am heating an area that is about 950 square feet with an 18 foot vaulted ceiling. The stove can keep the room at about 68 degrees when the outside temperature is 30 degrees. Installation went very well with the only time consuming stage was fitting an adaptor from the stove to my stainless steel flue. It is a well built American made stove that I would recommend as a replacement to an existing open hearth fireplace. If you do not have free access to wood, as I do, then I would suggest a pellet stove insert. I have one in my master bedroom and it puts out masses of heat with little attention - just add pellets every other day or so, and clean out the ashes every few days. Of course you do have to purchase pellets! February 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What a great job this stove does. I'm completely satisfied with this product. I have a one story ranch and I have not used my heat since buying it. The blower works nicely and is quiet. Provides a plenty of heat and burns for aprox. 3 to 4 hours before reloading it. At night I choke the stove down to about 1/3 and in the morning I still have plenty of hot coals to reload without lighting it myself. I would recommend this stove to anyone with a small house or a large room. I would not imagine it would be as efficient in a multiple story house. The only downfalls I've noticed is there is no ash trap. It makes cleaning somewhat messy. However, I don't believe many inserts have one. Pound for pound it's a nice unit and I look forward to see my electric bill this month. December 18, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dissappointed After shopping online for an extended amount of time I finally found an American made insert. Excited, I purchased it through my local Home Depot and chose the free ship to store option. The insert arrived on time and Home Depot notified me promptly. Upon returning home and unpacking the insert I noticed the blower assembly was not shipped with the insert. Another two weeks until it arrived after jumping through hoops with USSTOVE to get it on its way. After receiving blower assembly and attempting to install, the provided screws broke off in the insert because they were the wrong size. I used a hand screw driver. After an hour of redrilling and cussing I finaly got the blower assembly attached. Installation would have been a breeze if the adjustment nuts on the rear would not have been distorted from welding them to the stove box and the adjustment bolts would have threaded in nicely. The finish on both the stove and surrounding facia could have been better. The trim facia will not stay tight to the fireplace due to the springs are not strong enough. Although I purchased this insert mainly for comfort, those of you who intend to heat 1800 square feet should look elsewhere. The firebox is very small and the 1800 sq. ft. rating is wishful thinking. Overall I'm disappointed with the less then stellar quality of this insert. I shopped for days to find made in the USA. I'd take it back because I'm sure Home Depot would refund my money but it's already installed and it's not Home Depots fault. I'd say, USSTOVE needs to crack down on quality control and provide a better product to the American consumer. For $1200 and made in USA a fella should be able to trust things are what they seem. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Combination Had my doubts because of the low price but this stove has everything the name brands do. Had to modify my chimney to accept the chimney liner and the stove went right in and I was heating my house the next hour and has been in full operation since mid October 2012. We now heat parts of the house that have been kept closed during the winter since the 1950's Bring on the New England Winter and good bye Oil Guy! December 6, 2012
