Answer:
The Type 1 panels do not carry a "R" value but are more for ember protection. a Type 2 Panel will offer a R Rating for 1.08. This is a Type 2 Panel.

Answer:
Type one pads protect against embers and type two protects against the heat from passing through the combustible flooring underneath the unit. Type two is recommend for better protection and better safety ratings. Most units require a type 2 or better hearth pad and a specific R value level.

First I believe that I got a very good product at a fair price. And second, the Home Depot people (store clerks and delivery guys) were very thoughtful and helpful. I don't think that they could have been nicer.
Good quality and great service - hard to beat.
