Product Overview

Run your US Sunlight Solar Fan into the evening, monitor temperature and humidity, and monitor fan operating status with the award winning Solar Controller. Addition of the Solar Controller with Dual Mode Technology will enable your US Sunlight Solar Powered Attic Fan or All Purpose Ventilator to run after sunset, or when there is no light available from the sun. Solar Controller is designed to work only with US Sunlight Corporation ventilation products.

  • Built-in Temperature Sensor monitors the attic temperature and will turn on the fan when the temperature reaches 80 degrees and will turn off the fan when the temperature dips below 77 degrees
  • Built-in humidistat monitors the attic humidity and will turn on the fan if the attic air reaches 75% relative humidity and will turn it off at 65% relative humidity
  • Estimated annual operating cost to be less than $5 per-year
  • Remote control unit displays the current attic temperature and relative humidity
  • Lets you know at any time if your fan is running and if the power source is from the solar panel or house electricity
  • Power your U.S. Sunlight Solar Attic Fan when sunlight is not available, using house power on an intermittent cycle – 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off for up to 10 hours or until solar power becomes available again

Answer:
AC is required if you want the fan to run after sundown, which is the whole point of using this controller. It is not a solar battery charger, and does not store solar energy itself.

I have read product overview and specifications of US Sunlight's all solar attic fans' and solar controllers. One person (thekid143) asked a question about particular this unit model # SC12. And there is a answer from someone (CommunityAnswer) that it can be use with any fan. How it could be possible? Most of US Sunlight's solar attic fans' motor need 38 DC Volts and this unit release 12 (DC) Volts & 18 Watts output. I think and understand that Watts can be different, but Volts should be the same in amount & type. This is all from as my knowledge & understanding. It could be wrong too. But there is big surprise that there is no any single answer from US Sunlight.

US Sunlight doesn't make it easy, as they are totally tight-lipped with regard to their products' technical specifications. But I can tell you that the SC10, SC12, and SC20 will work with virtually all fans sold for solar use; you just have to make sure you have the polarity correct so the fan pulls air out of the attic. These fans generally have motors rated for 38V, but they still work at lower voltages. The SC20, however, uses an 18V AC adapter instead of the others' 12V adapters, so the fan will spin faster on intermittent mode.
In the same way, these controllers can be used with solar panels other than ones sold by US Sunlight. The SC10 and SC12 require panels rated 10W or higher. The SC20, however, requires panels 20W or higher -- if you hook up a lower-wattage panel, its solar function will not work. Again, if you're mixing and matching components, keep an eye on polarity. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WORKS AS DESCRIBED Nice to monitor activity remotely. is not a remote control. August 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Price on WEB! Shipped as advertised, price was the cheapest on web. June 2, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too sensitive to cloudcover on bright days. Without the controller the fan would continue to run, albeit at a lower speed. This is much preferred to the fan being stopped by the controller and going into a intermittent mode where the fan is not running but every 15 minutes. It should be left on solar power until it dark not in the middle of the day with some cloud cover! I have been giving thought of bypassing controller and seeing if by nightfall if the extra run time that the controller provides is even needed. July 30, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good only draw back is that if solar is not avaliable the fan will run off of electricity for a interuppted amount of time. after that time is done the fan will be off for 12 hrs. so hopefully it runs all day long on solar and then at night turns on and off til the timer is up.
