If applying Structo-lite on walls primed with Zinsser 123 (2 coats), is it necessary to water spray the wall first?
Asked by: Raffi
Raffi Thank you for your inquiry. Structo-lite is a lightweight conventional basecoat plaster intended to be applied over lath at a minimum of 1/2" thick. If you plan to apply less than 1/2" of plaster we do not recommend using Structo-lite. We offer veneer plasters such as Diamond Veneer Finish coat which is applied at 1/16" thick. If you would like to use a 2 coat system you can apply Diamond Veneer Basecoat at 3/32" thick followed by Diamond Veneer Finish coat at 1/16" thick. You would need to apply plaster bonder over your wall before applying the plaster. Thanks for choosing USG.

We are remodeling an old house that has plaster walls. Instead of dry-walling over them, will this product provide good cover of cracks and holes?

Asked by: Anonymous
Person who answered this question didn't read it carefully.... they said "instead of drywall". This is an excellent product for repairing medium to large holes with exposed lath (horizontal wood strips or similar). It is not, however, a 1-step process. This should be used to fill to within 1/4" to 1/8" of the final surface, then top-coated with red gauging plaster. The lath and surrounding plaster should be moistened before application. I would not use this for small holes or cracks. NEVER use drywall compound to patch plaster! They expand and contract at different rates and cracks will return with temp & humidity changes.

Thank you for your question. We would not recommend applying direct you would need a mess or something for the material to bite to, we do not test over wood.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product Used in remodel of home with plaster walls. Durable and mixes well. Good working time but as with any plaster or mud project, it can get messy. Will need to use veneer plaster or skim coat for finished surface.
