The tarp is the typical thickness for a general purpose heavy duty tarp, the same thickness as heavy duty tarps sold by Home Depot. What sets this one apart is the additional of a thick strip of peel-n-stick adhesive. This helps create a waterproof seal between the edge of the tarp and the area it is covering. The adhesive covers all four edges, but nowhere else.
Worth noting, it the fact that this tarp, along with the adhesive strip, has grommets along all 4 edges. Some other tarps I own only have grommets on two of the four edges.
The tarp forms part of our hurricane preparedness kit, and hopefully we won't ever need to use it. If we do, I feel confident it will do its job very well.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MarilynB Great Roof Protection -AND Made in the USA!!
I am so pleased to see that this roofing tarp is made in the USA! It is an excellent choice for a quick and easy way to protect your roof until it can be repaired. It is not too thick, but that should make it easier to handle while up on the roof. The edges have a clear colored, rubbery, self-adhesive strip about 2" wide all around to keep the damaged area dry, which is a great feature. There are also grommets on this tarp about every 30".
After having been a position to need one of these, but having none on hand, I am now comforted to know that I am prepared in the future if I should need a covering for a damaged roof. This is well made, and I am confident that it will perform well.
Although it is not an important factor, I really would have liked a color other than blue.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sebastian A thoughtful product with hurricane in mind.
This tarp is made of highly durable material, with the thought of protecting people in the event of a rain disaster on the roof of the house.
One person can do the job, since it is light weight, yet durable.
The heavy duty peel and stick glue will stick to anything.
I put it on top of my asphalt shingle roof, when a few shingle flew away in the wind, and started leaking.
This tarp protected me from further damage until the roof repair man came a few days later.

It is a blue tarp with tape on it covering a sticky strip, so you can use it on a roof if you get damage. It is designed to add to your hurricane (or tornado) survival kit. I'll stash it away for future use. I wish it was a nice brown instead of bright blue then I could use it as a permanent cover on my shed but that's okay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ObjectiveReviewer Great tarp and very large
The tarp is really well made and of such a high quality. I have used cheaper tarps and they tear and rip so easily. It would take a lot to put a tear in this tarp.
I have used this for many home projects and brought it camping to use over the top of my tent. Who needs an expensive rain fly that may not work when you have a tarp as good as this?! Here in Florida you always need tarps on hand in the event of roof damage cause by severe storms, this tarp will definitely do the trick and is absolutely waterproof.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve This is my second one
I ordered this 16 FT X 20 FT tarp because I was so impressed with its 20 FT X 25 FT big brother.
I just finished roofing a 20' x 25' car port. It took me two days to complete and this tarp was an over night life saver. I completed the tear-off and shingled about a third of the roof when it became too dark to continue. There was no rain predicted for that evening but I decided to cover the roof just in case. The tarp went on easily and the adhesive edges stuck well to the plywood sheathing but I added a few staples for my peace of mind. It rained. The next morning, upon inspection, the tarp hadn't moved and everything remained dry. An excellent product that I highly recommend.

This is a medium weight tarp that has a pre-applied tape edge. This edge tape is 3" wide and very thick. The tape is soft and will stick to any surface that’s free of dirt, water, snow and the like. The tape is very soft and very flexible even with temperatures in the low 30's. The tape makes it possible for just one person to get the tarp installed on a roof. Once the tarp is spread out the edges can be secured, we used screws down thru the grommet holes and fender washers.
We used this on a roof that had some shingle damage from the winds in mid February. The instructions don't show using thin strips of wood (furring strips) or other material to hold the center of the tarp down but if you're expecting medium to high winds it keeps the tarp from ballooning up and away from the roof.
Make sure that you get a tarp that is long enough to extend from well below the area that’s damaged up and over the top of the ridge on the roof. Even though this has a taped edge it won't seal out water running down the roof.
These tarps are great for short term protection from the elements until full repairs can be accomplished.
These are a great item to have on hand if you live in an area where high winds are possible or if you have large trees near your home.
