The unit was shipped to our home directly and sat for a couple of weeks before we had time to install it. Upon unpacking we could not get the lid to open. At first I thought that the lid must be locked but I could not find a key in the package. I finally realized that the unit had been damaged in shipping--it had been slightly warped inwards at the front, vertical wall where the latches are. This caused the latches to not release. I finally (and carefully) pried the wall away from the latch enough to get it open. This caused some minor interior damage but, given the time it would take to replace the unit and our desire to get the thing installed I let the damage go. It turns out that the latch system is not well-designed--it utilizes a horizontal catch pin attached to the lid that the latch on the front-facing wall grabs ahold of. The pin is fully adjustable up or down over a range of about 2 inches. From the factory the adjustment was VERY loosey-goosey, meaning that the lid would not shut TIGHT allowing dust to infiltrate, even with the installed weather stripping. This is a big issue for us given the amount of dirt roads we travel. So I adjusted the latch pin to ensure a good, tight closure. Problem is, with the lid shut tight you cannot lock the unit! The lock mechanism will not engage with the lid shout down tight. So, I can either have a tight-fitting, dust-resistant lid or I can have a lid that locks. I will have to add additional weather stripping where the lid and box meet to help seal it better. Otherwise, the unit looks quite serviceable and fits our truck bed with its gooseneck hitch where other boxes were too tall. I put a LOT of stuff (tools, jack, ropes, fluids, tool box, etc.) into this box and there is still room for a bit more. Still, it is a bit disappointing to spend this much on a truck box that has such a funky latch system.
