Sizing to fit opening

Product description mentions perforations to fit the size of the cavity. Are the perforations in one, two or five inch increments. Since cutting is described as the most difficult aspect of the product installation more information is needed since one comment said the product was advertised as having the perforations - but, did not.
Asked by: Ed
If you get the correct width for your application, you are all set. Because tearing this product is really easy. There are no "perforations." You just reach into it (with gloves) and tear it. It will tear ACROSS the baton very easily allowing you to tailor the length of each piece. However, if you try to tear it LENGTHWISE (not across), you will find it very difficult. So that is why I say to get the correct WIDTH and you're all set. Tearing the length off is easy and can be done by hand at the time of install (even without a knife).

will this product absorbe condensation

Asked by: joker
Yes, it will. We observed that if it got wet, it would get very heavy. Additionally, we decided never to use it in areas where water could get to it.

How would i install in a ceiling? Since there's no backing, i know i can't staple it in . . .

Replacing insulation between floor of 1st floor and ceiling of basement. Want more sound protection as downstairs is TV room and upstairs are bedrooms. All videos and pictures I see are of wall installations. Can it be used in a ceiling? How?
Asked by: Meli
This is the ceiling before we installed the insulation. We kind of "taco'd" it up above the bottom batton. Then tucked it up and or pulled it down to adjust it totally flat, as close to the drywall as possible.

If walls of room are already closed, can ultra touch get "manually pushed "into an large opening in the Sheetrock.

The wall we want to insulate is an interior wall of a bedroom. If we create a large opening in the Sheetrock can we manually push the ultra touch , vertically, into each bay? Will the material work that way?
Asked by: Dave
Being fibrous and a bit furry, each piece of insulation would inevitably get caught on every little thing inside your opening. It's a difficult job at best. I had to push in some areas in my install, and you can't SLIDE it, but you can push it maybe two feet before it binds up.

This size (4 foot bats) perfect for underfloor application (e.g., crawlspace). Used tie-wire on 6p nails pre-installed as support grid. Relatively easy to cut or tear (with some effort) by hand or with box-cutter, for tight fit areas. Some dust issues as fibers erupt when tearing, but just minor, no big deal. Wore eye protection only, no face mask needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much better to work with than fiberglass First the bad: 1. This stuff is supposed to be 8" thick and the manufacturer states that shaking it will restore the loft lost in packaging. Shaking really has little effect and the maximum thickness that I got was about 6 inches. 2. The company's video shows it being installed without any protection. Nice try...this stuff is extremely dusty and while it isn't nearly irritating as fiberglass it doesn't take long to get a nose full of blue. Wear a dust mask and save some sniffles. 3. A utility knife won't touch this stuff....I used a cordless skill saw that worked well because of its slower speed. 4. The product is available in 15" and 16" widths with no guidance as to why. The good: 1. No itch 2. Easy to handle 3. Stays put 4. Much better to work with fiberglass

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff!! Worth the extra effort! Beware perforation claims I bought this for my attic - I removed old fiberglass batts between my attic floor joists and replaced with these denim batts. It's quiet, warm, fits right for 16" on center framing, and is great to work with - no itch, just a dust mask needed. However cutting is a challenge, so your project may take a bit longer. After researching sites & reviews to find out how best to cut, I got an inexpensive insulation saw for cut outs (just like a long bread knife). You might even buy two for a big job - any blade will dull over time on this stuff. For long rip cuts, the web description said these came pre-perforated for tearing into strips, but my order didn't for some reason. Based on another web review, I used my portable table saw which worked great - just be safe when doing this (blade at full height, blade guard off, one pass, flip over, 2nd pass - and use a guide stick) Cost is about double fiberglass and I think more than mineral batts, but I'd prefer living in a house filled with blue jeans any day. Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product!! PROS: Easy to install. Fills attic bays nicely. Easy to make smaller pieces by ripping apart bats with bare hands. No gloves needs for installation. Made from 80% recycled materials. The Home Depot website has a cool video of how it's made!! Find the pictures of the product and click the one with the "Play" symbol on it. It has more R value per square inch than fiberglass, Rockwool, and blown-in insulation. So basically, you can get more R-value in a smaller space. It's like my attic is insulated with a very warm, thick blanket. I could almost sleep on it... not that I would want to though... :) CONS: 1) Does not come with a vapor barrier. However, I used Grace Ice and Water shield which is MUCH better than regular plastic sheeting. A 48" roll can be cut into 3 - 16"W sections with a reciprocating saw. Works great!!! 2) Bats can vary in widths. It says 15" wide, but some can be 14.5"W thru 16"W. Had some bays in my attic that were almost 16"W, so I saved the wider ones for that. 3) As of this review, Home Depot only carries this in pallets and NOT individual bags. I wish they sold individual bags, because I needed 2 more bags for the project and I have to drive to a supplier to get them... and pay TWICE what Home Depot charges. Uggh!! I called the manufacturer and since this is a special order for Home Depot, it costs them just as much to send 2 bags as it does to send a pallet full. This is why they don't stock individual bags. Personally, Home Depot should regularly carry this in their stores. I recently asked a sales clerk and he said they did carry it in the store for a short time, but then they stopped. 4) A bit pricey, but well worth it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to handle The insulation was light weight, so I could easily drag a pack of five up the stairs. The packaging was sturdy enough that it did not tear while moving packs around. Since the product does not require special protective gear, installation was very quick and easy. Now I am simply waiting for the next hot summer day to see what the impact is on keeping my house cool. It's more expensive than Fiberglas but so much more easy to handle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a very good purchase it was relatively easy to install, but You did need to wear a mask. It was a bit difficult to cut, I tried an exact o blade, bread knife and scissors. The scissors worked best, but still was not easy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Description/specs incomplete If you are trying to "do the math" for a per unit (square foot) breakdown of the price for product comparison shopping, you will notice that the square footage in the description write up does not match the result from computing off of the dimensions listed(15"W x 48"L)each x 12 bags/pallet = 60 square feet instead of 300 listed in the description. A key piece of info is missing-namely, there are 5 pieces in each bag-info not shown in the description and when I called customer service they couldn't tell me why "the math" didn't match "the listing" and I was going to have to call the manufacturer. Since the mftr didn't answer the phone # I was given, I looked up the product description on the mftr website and found that each "bag" actually has 5 pieces (of 15" x 48") in it. That tidbit is shown on the bag label but I only saw that after I got the info from the mftr spec sheet and went back to the HD description and blew up the picture as big as I could get it(& it was still squinting size) actually looking for the information just to see if it was there somewhere. HOME DEPOT- WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO TO SUCH LENGTHS TO FIND OUT SUCH BASIC INFORMATION THAT SHOULD BE IN THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION IN THE FIRST PLACE AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSONNEL SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE ACTUAL CUSTOMER SERVICE WHEN WE CALL IN, NOT JUST REGURGITATE INFO OFF OF THE WEBSITE WE ALREADY HAVE AND ARE QUESTIONING, PROMPTING THE PHONE CALL IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great product but expensive Denim insulation was great. It was a little dusty and requires individuals to wear a respirator mask. To cut the insulation I used a circular saw and this made things go really fast. The great thing is the after insulation is installed an a modification is require, such as additional block or adding lights boxes it is so easy to remove and re-install.
