Answer:
This is made from 100% recycled denim (blue jeans); and denim is mold-, mildew-, and fungi-resistant. But, it is not moisture resistant. If your jeans can get wet, so can the insulation. It just won't grow bad microbes very well, unless left wet for months or years at a time.

Answer:
According to the manufacturer (Bonded Logic), this product has been treated with a non-toxic mold and mildew inhibitor. It also has a class A fire rating (low combustibility) so no worries on fire either.

After insulation is installed, I plan to install acoustic joist tape, acoustic foam over the frame, then double layered drywall with green glue between layers of drywall.

It depends on how much sound you are trying to block coming into or out of your room. I installed mine on an outside deck wall. The 'balcony' had previously been enclosed with windows, but no one put insulation in the wall below the windows. I could hear cars and people walking by constantly.

After I installed the denim insulation and added 5/8 drywall, the sound was greatly reduced. I can still hear motorcycles and diesel engines, but not standard car motors or people walking. I did NOT add the acoustic joist tape or foam, or did double layer drywall. My guess is, you won't hear very much. Read Less

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 67 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great damping material for speaker enclosures. I've used this denim insulation for a lot of my speaker cabinets, and this stuff works pretty well. You have to be creative at cutting the material to size. Other than that, no complaints. Definitely work nicely for my Volt-6 coaxials I assembled. :) December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by it was hard to cut , but figured out that a good pair of sizzers work's best. It was hard to cut but figured it out by using sizzers April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional insulation, easy installation... I used this to fill-in two windows facing east that heated up the entire house. My only challenge was putting them horizontal or vertically. But after a little practice I had no problem. I duct taped them to a compressed insulation board I'd used prior to them and shoved it in, taping it to the frame. Wow!! Works great for the heat AND noise too!!! April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Chose this over other options. Made the right call Very easy to work with as opposed to fiber bat insulation. Cuts and tears easily. Very easy to tuck into small crevasses. Stops noise better than described-could not believe how much street noise is stopped with only 2 inches. Imagine 4 or 6. Some have complained that it does not expand like fiberglass. I found that if you manually expand it prior to putting it between the studs AND put a few staples to hold it near the edge until you get the vapor barrier on, it stayed put and worked just fine. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well in a dead vent systen I used this is a recording/practice studio dead vent for sound isolation. I was a little worried about fibers blowing out - but so far I haven't detected any (besides the initial loose junk when I first turned on the in-line fan). This application used 12 bags. After a few attempts at cutting using various things, I ended up using a sharp carving knife to first cut it in half (while it was still in the bag). For small cuts/shaping/etc you can just tear it by hand. Soft and fluffy, no lint or air particles/fibers for the most part (unlike fiberglass bats). I was surprised at how well this system works for moving air and reducing sound transmission between the adjoining room. July 26, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Impossible to Mount Horrible sound proofing use as mounting tape doesn't work with the denim and it is impossible to mount the denim to a vertical surface using mounting tape. Very disappointed with product. Beach'n March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by easy to work with Easy to work with - like the fact that we are reusing Denim - shipped to the store March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice product The material was easy to install and didn't contain any hazardous material like fiberglass insulation. March 15, 2016
