CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Read the Instructions! Reading the various reviews i notice that there is a lot of confusion regarding this product... It is a base product to create a solid surface to build on. I used it a lot for steps and retaining wall to create a "footing" base, then use paver sand on top (2") where the stone or paver will sit safely! I highly recommend this product, save time in preparing a good base for the project October 8, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Did the job I used 80 bags of this to install about 118 sqft of pavers. We have tough soil with a lot of clay, so I didn't make the base as thick. This stuff compacted nicely (got it a little wet first). It was like walking on concrete after it had dried and was compacted by a plate compactor. I know I could have saved some money by buying something similar in bulk for the size job, but I wanted to have everything delivered at once and like the ability to return unused bags. May 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great base for Pavers under the leveling sand When building my patio with Paver stones from the Depot, I bought these as a base and then put the leveling sand over these before putting down the Paver stones. I helps with drainage and makes the patio solid. November 4, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Reasonable Product Product I got in the bag marked paver base was NOT gray. It was a light red brick color. In fact, it looked very much like crushed bricks. About 20% - 25% of each bag was large rocks, but I used the large rocks in another landscaping project so they didn't go to waste. I tried wetting down the product as directed, and would you believe it? The stuff actually seems nearly waterproof. I suppose if it acts like a waterproof barrier, it will reduce the tendency of the dirt beneath to become muddy. I only wanted a solid base, and don't plan to install pavers above it, so it did convert my muddy area to a more manageable dry area. I will be covering it with a colorful mixture of landscaping pebbles, otherwise I'd be concerned that the slightest breeze would leave my nearby plants covered in red brick dust. April 15, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Inconsistent Quality If you are doing a big project, go to a paver/landscape supply and buy crushed granite in bulk... a MUCH better deal. For small projects, this is really the only choice. HOWEVER, be prepared. For each app. 10 bags you buy you will lose a bag worth to LARGE stones. You MUST remove these before compacting, as noted by others, they will damage your pavers/stones over time and prevent good compaction. Crushed granite is crushed granite... the Pavestone brand really means nothing. Only recommended for small DIY projects. October 1, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by company recently changed bag weight not the price! I'm a contractor, two months ago I installed 4 (14 foot) terraced flower beds.Due to the two pitches of the yard,60 degrees in front and 45 degrees left to right,I decided to use the Bagged crush and run for the footings, it was much easier than ordering a ton in a bag and dealing with a wheel barrel. But now! Paverstone has recently has dropped the contents of the bag by 40% and kept the old price.. No longer is there any reason to buy this product.Just order a bagged Ton .Much cheaper. Home depot needs to find a new source! August 3, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dissapointing Purchased this paver base to provide a base under concrete pavers. I was looking for roughly a 1 inch base, and was disappointed with the product. In three bags of product, I pulled out nearly 3/4 of a bag of rock. The largest was the size of a golf ball. Overall, the product lacks consistency in size and was difficult to work without using a sand top layer (which I did). If you are going to drop a full four inch base, then this will work, but if you need a decent quality, I would have good crushed rock delivered instead. March 31, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great BASE to go UNDER Paver Sand!!! Self-educate! There is a LOT of confusion about this product. This product is meant to go UNDER the paver sand, thus making it the perfect base to go UNDER the paver sand that goes UNDER the pavers!! Very Simple! THREE Layer steps: This is a great (1)BASE for the (2) paver sand for the (3) pavers. - - - OR - - You may use it all alone as a great pathway enclosed with edging. August 11, 2012
