Read the instructions folks - it will tell you that water flowing quickly through the valve will cause it to shut off. If you turn on the supply too quickly, it will trigger the valve and you have to release the shutoff valve connection at the fitting to relieve pressure and the valve will reopen, allowing the water to flow again. We had to play with ours to get the correct flow rate but once we did, never a problem. We had to replace ours today due to a repairman damaging it (and not noticing or telling us), and I couldn't find one at a competitor's store. So headed to Home Depot tomorrow to pick up another one. If you have hardwoods, better to endure a bit of frustration getting it set up than coming home to find $10K in damage to your house that could have been prevented with a bit of patience. As to the chemical taste - never experienced that issue, but our refrigerator does have a filtration system in it that perhaps traps that. Ice and water are both crystal clear with no odour. Good luck if you choose to forgo this for a cheaper hose. Firm believer in that you get what you pay for (and have the patience to set up correctly).,

Having experienced a flood from a cracked plastic icemaker water line, I installed one of these on a new icemaker that I installed at my vacation home. While we were away it appears that the float valve in the icemaker failed, allowing a constant flow of water to the icemaker. This FloodSafe device functioned perfectly, shutting down the water supply to the ice maker before my condo flooded. Without it the water could have run for weeks. Easy to install. Well worth the money.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Homeowner Shut off valve too sensitive
The idea is great, the execution, not so much. Installed on city water lines, could only open the main supply valve half way before the valve on this line shut off. Opened the main supply slowly half way, the valve on the supply line was fine. After the first batch of cubes was made, the ice maker "called" for more water. The water pressure was enough to shut off the valve in the supply line again. I am not willing to disconnect and reconnect the line every time a batch of cubes is made.
Good idea for a location where occupancy is limited (vacation home, etc.) but too sensitive for normal installations. No wonder there were a number of resealed packages available at the store.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by SandT Awful tasting water/ice!!!
The water and ice coming through this line tastes like it came from a garden hose. Just awful!! I haven't been able to use my water and ice maker on my refrigerator because of this...

Does not work in all locations. I live in Omaha, NE and installed one of these following a water damage situation due to another hose. After installing this connector, my water on the refrigerator stopped after one day. Called a service agent out and as soon as he saw the hose package, he told me the hose was the problem. Too much water pressure causes the valve to shutoff period.
