Rated 5.0 out of 5.0Â by Jackie I love this Garden House Canopy!!!
I recently purchased this 10x10 Garden House canopy for a new concrete patio (13x34) I had built in my backyard. It was easy to put together and my brother and I put it together in about 1 hour if that! I like the shade it provides on one side. It looks awesome in the area I put it and I even put two of the legs (horizontally) in clay pots of concrete to stabilize it incase of wind. Adding an Ivy plant to the top portion. I could not use tie downs on the concrete. Yesterday, I purchase a gazebo fan to hang from the center hook for added AC! The decorative light strings I put on as well for lighting at night. My patio is complete and I could not have done it with out this amazing canopy garden house from Homedepot! Love love love it!!! Jacqueline

Assembly was rough, but that's because I assembled it by myself. Ideally, you'll want at least 1 other person around to steady the legs during assembly. If you can manage to round up 2 friends, you'll be in great shape. I didn't take off any stars for assembly as it's not Hampton Bay's fault that I'm stubborn and didn't want to ask for help.
I picked this one specifically because of the side shade. During the summer months, the sun will shine practically horizontally across our backyard which makes any kind of outside activity hot and blinding. The ability to convert the back wall to an awning (and back again) was a handy feature as well. This was the only pergola/shade that had this option, so I didn't have much of a choice. But it does look great, I'm just not convinced that it will last very long at all.
I gave it 3 stars for quality because of a number of quality-control issues that I noticed. First, the package contains all the necessary hardware, including some extras. Thankfully there was an extra nut because one of the nuts didn't have any threads cut into it (see the picture). Second, welded joints on the frame were MOSTLY good, but not all. You can see in the picture below that one of the joints has more than 1/8" gap between the components. Third, there are some issues with the fabric cover where it is thinner in some areas making for blotchy discolorations when the sun is shining down. The picture below shows the largest one, which was about 8-10" wide.
I don't expect the fabric to hold up for very long, based on the sound of seams popping while stretching it over the frame. The frame does have an adjustable corner designed to make fitting the fabric easier, but even that was not enough.
The instructions say this is not supposed to be a permanent structure and that the fabric needs to be removed when not in use. I honestly don't see how the fabric will hold up being taken on and off every time a summer storm approaches. This is why I gave it only 3 stars for value. The fabric only has a 1 year warranty and a replacement fabric will be more than $100. Adding/removing the fabric isn't that much of a hassle, but I don't think the seams will hold up for more than 2 or 3 removals.

Let's face it. I purchased this product because of affordability. After putting it together I can truly say I'm glad I bought it. It looks nice, it's sturdy and so far has held up nice during some pretty windy days.(without the stakes). The back wall was a must because of perpetual sun light and glaring late afternoon rays.
However, it is NOT collapsible, it does NOT have tie down cords, there is NOT a storage bag. It DOES take assembly and I would recommend 3 people. You can do it with 2 but be prepared to argue with your wife if you use her.
Still, I'm happy with the purchase.

After reading the other reviews I decided to look elsewhere for a 10x10 foot product. I didn't find anything else that I liked so I decided to give this one a try hoping that it would be worth my time and trouble. This is my 4th 10x10 canopy over the last 11 years. This is the highest quality I have found for this price range. I leave the metal frame up all year but remove the top in the winter. My last canopy lasted 4 summers. This one looks like it should last as long. Overall it has a nicer look than the previous and the frame seems sturdier. I have had it up for 2 weeks and haven't had any problems. The drop down shade is a nice feature. The top covers almost an 11x11 area. It was a tight fit for my space but luckily it just made it. I normally don't write reviews but decided to for this product since there were so few written and my experience was so much better than the average.

Purchased this in the summer of 2014. By the fall, it was already very faded. Took canopy off for the winter, pretty sure it wouldn't have made it as it shows signs of distress at some of the seams already. The side awning doesn't really offer much use as it's small and if you have it on a deck like we do, it just overhangs and gets in the way, even while up. It does make a great wind/weather barrier when down, but be prepared to keep it closed. The frame seems sturdy. Holding up well so far, but the canopy, eh.
