The only problem I had was installing the spigot. After installing it I sealed around it with silicon cement..I was wondering what it takes to connect a hose to the side overflows. Do I cut off the overflow plugs to accommodate the hose? What size is the hole, half inch or quarter? I plan on just for now using the side overflow with the hose to water our plants lying close by..

This rain barrel came with everything I needed for a great price. I hooked my rain barrel up to my shed. Living in Oregon, it filled in 2 days off of 20 square feet of roof space. It is so easy to set up. I stacked 12 by 12 bricks under my barrel. I do recommend plumbers putty at the spigot. This one has a brass spigot, plastic ones don't last. After testing this one, I purchased another one and linked them together. Again, very easy for a 45 year old female. I hooked up a garden hose to mine. I love conserving water. It is a great investment. This is a must purchase. I believe we can all start conserving more water in this country!

I ordered two of these and found that the screen on top fit perfectly for one, but the inset rectangle on the other barrel is considerably bigger which creates a very loose fit. So there seems to be some inconsistency in quality control. When installing the brass spigot, you have to take great care to get it in straight, but it's manageable with a little patience (I used plumber's tape, which I would recommend to reduce the chances of a leak). Also, I connected these to a down spout diverter but I didn't use the pre-molded intake spots (which you have to drill a hole into to open) because they really wouldn't have fit with the diverter hose very well. Luckily the diverter kit came with a piece designed to function as the intake valve (I had to drill a hole in the side of the barrel to install it). Also, if you want to use the spigot to fill a watering can, you have to have this barrel up off the ground. There is a rain barrel stand that is made to go with this barrel and it works well. Finally, the biggest pro of the product is the shape. This fits very snug against an exterior wall.

I recently purchased a brown, 50 gallon rain barrel through the Home Depot website. I decided to have the product delivered to my local Home Depot so that an associate could help me to install the barrel's spigot. Some of the reviews of the spigot installation made me weary of the process. So, I thought, "What better a place than Home Depot to help me with this potential problem?" The right associate and the right tool put my worries to rest.
I quickly installed my rain barrel near a downspout, and after a typical Florida thunderstorm, I had 50 gallons of precious water. I have drained my barrel several times watering nearby plants, but never to worry: it will fill up again. Currently, I am scouting out locations around my home for the next two rain barrels I plan to purchase from the Home Depot.
Personal Opinion, Features, and Performance:
I love that my rain barrel collects an entire 50 gallons of water, and its brass spigot allows for easy water access. The clever screened opening keeps out unwanted debris and prevents mosquito outbreaks! Its performance satisfies my wants and needs. I love its exterior design which provides the look of a vintage wine barrel. It fits in perfectly with my English-style garden! I love it!

Rated 2 out of 5Â by RobM Spigot does not fit the barrel properly.
The barrel is a great shape, with the flat back, and would have been a reasonable product had the spigot fitted. The plastic threads on the barrel are very badly made and do not line up with the spigot. You can see other reports on this. I ended up having to use a wrench to get the thing in, probably stripping the thread in the process. It doesn't leak, but there's no way it will be able to be removed now. If this hadn't had worked, I would have just returned the whole thing to a local store for a refund.
