Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fhrjr Excellent Item for Saving Money
This item does not require any tools or batteries. Just plug it in then plug and electric item into it. It will keep track of how long it has been plugged in and also record the electricity used. To reset it simply unplug it and plug it back in. We have used it on two refrigerators, a heated waterbed and all the other electronic devices in our home. Based on the changes we have made this item will pay for itself in about five weeks. This item also alerted us to a malfunction in an item that could potentially have caused a fire.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bodyguard 6 month warranty
I bought the kill a watt model p4400 a few years ago. I used it for a couple quick tests when it was new. Then it sat for a few years. I got a new refrigerator and decided to check it. The meter read my voltage at 154 and the display faded and flickered. My voltage is 119 by two other meters. I know this thing is a few years old and now I know why it's only warranted for 6 months.

An amazing product, tells you everything about your electrical use, and does everything it's supposed to do. I bought it for my EV, a Nissan Leaf which does not use gas but charges from a wall outlet.
Can also be used as a magical idiot detector... read on.
I also say it's magical, because some reviewers stated that they could not read it at ground level or behind appliances even thought they were the very ones who put it there. They don't seem to recall that part, but complained and gave lower feedback. Just for fun, read the feedback for yourself and see!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Nice kWhr meter, easy to use
Easy to use, just plugged in an extension cord from the wall so I could put the unit on the top of the refrigerator, then plugged the refrigerator into the unit. I look a the energy used every few days and the elapsed time to easily predict monthly and yearly energy consumption. The old refrigerator isn't so bad after all. I calculated that it would take 9.6 years to break even if I purchased a $1,000 energy star rated refrigerator. I guess I'll hold onto the old refrigerator as long as it keeps consuming a fairly low amount of energy. The home depot pickup was also a breeze, just showed my ID, signed the paper and said thank you.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by beaker54 Is it a tool or a toy?
In preparing my house for a backup generator I had to track all of my circuits. Websites get confusing as to how much watts a average product uses. The Kill-O-Watt allowed me to record 1 minute usage of my electronic devices to provide actual usage both active and standby.
It can also be used to help lower your electric bill by identifying the "vampires" or heavy users.
As a toy you can leave it on any appliance for a week to see how much kWh that device used. It also provides loads of information that can be helpful in re-wiring a house. I love it and am glad to have bought it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RogueTraveler A great add on for power monitering
The first time I saw this item was not at Home Depot... paid way more than it costs here. I really appreciate being able to see what the Hz frequency is on the power line and on my generator. I can tweek the throttle to set it closer to what it should be. The only thing I wish there was a model which was for 220-240 VAC and one that was good for 5.5 - 6.0 KW. That would cover most all loads found in a home or RV. A model with a led back light would be wonderful as well since it is usually dark when the generator is running. The third thing that would be nice is to have a short cord coming out of the bottom to plug into instead of head on.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by homehandyman2011 Accurate power readings
I purchased this device to check all my power draws on the stuff we all have plugged in around our houses. I was shocked to find out how much some of the stuff draws even when not running. This unit will show you if your power voltage and cycles is what it should be at your appliances. It also tells you the amperage and wattage draws of the equipment you plug into it. On items that are randomly switched on you can set it to meter the power usage over whatever time frame you let it hooked up thus giving you a more accurate analysis of the true consumption of that particular item. I found out through my checking that I use about $200 worth of electric per year on simple things that are normally sitting waiting to be used. An eye opener.

just plug it in to the wall, then plug the device you want to be measured, you see just how much energy you are using. You will be amazed how much power that t.v. is useing , even when it is off ! I have been shutting the t.v. and the verizon box down compleatly, and saving over 15 KWH a month on just that alone , i give this product a big thumbs up !
