Rated 1 out of 5Â by gp3301 frustrating piece of junk
It seems that every time I use this trimmer I am replacing the line, because it did not load properly. The "rewind" process is slow and difficult, and most times it only grabs one of the ends, but I don't know this until I have finished rewinding the line into the head and find that only one side has loaded. I can't believe they have a patent on this joke of a tool.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by LostMyPatience DO NOT BUY ANY ECHO WITH A U-TURN HEAD
Let me preface this review by saying I never write these, however, I felt I had to warn people about buying this piece of garbage! I use A LOT of power equipment, commercial grade, etc and this is by far the worst thing I have ever used. They sell you on the fact that you just load the trimmer line in each end of the spool and turn. If it was that easy, I wouldn't be writing this review. If the trimmer line breaks inside the spool head---which is about 85% of the time, you have to open it up, take the line out and start over. There are two holes on either side of the head where the trimmer line must slip into prior to winding. If there is old twine in there, you can't wind the new line. Once you are set up to begin winding, you can only move at a 1/4 of a turn and then stop, release, push down and wind another 1/4 of a turn. So 4 turns to go around one time. It probably takes 10-15 minutes to wind the spool. I have wasted 15 minutes to rewind, trimmed 25 feet, and the line broke off inside the head, and I had to go back and start over. There have been times where it's taken an hour to trim about 60 feet because I've had to stop to rewind the spool 3 times! DO NOT BUY THIS, if you do, you deserve the nightmare that is coming your way! The Echo trimmer itself is great. If you can find some other head to put on the end of it, go for it, but do not use the U-turn head, it's torture!

I do a lot of trimming. And I'm not getting any younger. I decided to stop buying cheap frustrating equipment that gets replaced every 2 or 3 years. I went with a 4 stroke Honda this year. Great trimmer, but worst head ever. This Echo head fit easily on the Honda. Nice 7 pc. adapter kit, supports 6 stock configurations from 7mm to 10mm. Fits Honda, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonesered, Maruyama, McCulloch, Red Max, Shindaiwa, Stihl, and Echo of course. I had an older Ryobe easy loader that wasn't. This Echo head has dual channels for 2 lines. No binding of the line. Winds up very easily without removing the head, 30 sec max. Instructions say "hold trimmer head while turning knob clockwise" but it's easier to do the opposite, hold knob pushed in and turn the trimmer's gear head. Comes loaded with Echo's 0.095 Crossfire line which turned out to be surprisingly good stuff. I may switch to it. Between not having to carry a pocket knife to do surgery on a bound up line and the speedy load, I'd estimate I get the job done in half the time. New 4 stroke trimmer helps.

Eliminates the need to remove the spool from the housing. Simply cut a length of line (about 20 feet) and insert each end into the eyelets on the head housing. Wind the spool clockwise and cut the line at the end.
