Yes you can. We tried it and it works great. You would need to extend the attached string on the bulb changer part to release the suction.

Absolutely—it says so right in the description! You have to scroll down pretty far, though, to the WIND TUNNEL TEST RESULTS table where you'll see how several types of bird houses (including Martin gourds!) performed.
If you do sink these in concrete, please post pictures so we can see how it turned out.

Probably, but I think it would depend on how high you make the pole. I think 20 ft. might be too high.

Answer: 
The threads on this extension pole are Acme 3/4" 5 TPI (threads per inch). For reference, they are they same type of threads found on paint rollers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Telescopic Pole Telescopic Pole: The pole is lightweight and easy to use all the way extended. The only thing that you need to watch out for is extending the small pole to far so that it bends when you apply pressure to wash a window. They should have "stops" or a marking warning you to not go beyond a point on the pole to ensure proper engagement.

However, on the second day of it being used the connection part for the "head" of the unit snapped off. It is a poor grade of plastic and not substantial in the design to make it last. On the one day it was used it was fantastic for removing dust from high areas in our home but not a reliable product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for a sturdy reach to a tall ceiling i needed a long extendable pole to change light bulbs and to dust in my great room with very tall ceilings. This pole is lightweight but sturdy enough to do the job. 20 ft. length, with my six foot height, will get me almost to the peak of the ceiling, and a step ladder will get me all the way if I need to.
