Customer Questions & Answers

Does this screen door come with all the parts needed?

Asked by: dude
Yes, it comes with everything you need. The rollers are much better than the generic door/rollers the developer installed. Height-wise it is adjustable which, in my opinion, was the hardest part of the installlation; trying to lengthen the end-frame to get it exactly tall enough so the mosquitoes wouldn't come in through the gap (if you extend the frame too far). It is a nicer door compared to the one the developer installed when my house was built.

If I purchase this door, can someone there help me tie it on my car's roof?

will bring the rope, of course. Thanks, Jessie
Asked by: JayKayC
Yes, they will. I have a '98 Honda Accord. While I can fit an 8' ladder inside my car, a screen door won't fit. I brought 50' of rope, I had bought at Dollar-Tree for $1. The Millerwork manager (HD department that sells doors) walked me to my car and helped me load it on my roof and tie it down. I drove 20mph on the way home.

Can I get a size 36x96" sliding patio screen?
Asked by: Cindyk
Thank you for your interest in our Standard Patio Screen.  We do have custom patio screens available in some Home Depot locations via special order although there are size limitations. Be sure to check your local Home Depot to see if we are a vendor for that store. A Millwork Associate at the store should be able to help you.

the height opening is only 78in

Asked by: niner
Every screen I have measured fully retracted is 78 inches. 77 5/8 measurement is a myth if manufacturer made them a tad shorter there would be fewer complaints

Customer Reviews

36 in. x 80 in. Standard White Metal Sliding Patio Screen Door is rated 1.8 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wish I read the reviews... I thought I was doing something wrong until I read the reviews. Ugh. The rollers and springs are junk, the plastic is so cheap and thin. Heck, a spork at KFC would make a better roller. I was going to return it, but it appears that the other hardware stores in our area sell the exact same design with a different brand. The door itself seems as solid as the one I replaced. So I'm going to use my McGyver skills (the 80's McGyver, not the 2016 one!) and see if I can modify the rollers or replace them with a good metal replacement set so the door actually slides

We didn't have a screen door at our house when we moved in, so I didn't have one to compare it to. This adjusted easily, slides smooth enough, and was actually really easy to install. We ended up extending it vertically almost all of the way. Installation took about 15 minutes, I didn't install the locking mechanism as I just don't see why you would lock a screen door like this. The door is stable, doesn't flex, slides easily enough for my 7 year old to open without damaging it, and stays in place enough from my 2 year old leaning on it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrating and ultimately useless. Design is correct, but nothing works well enough, quality is the issue. The door tries to solve every problem and it doesn't get there. The door bends too easily, the wheels and wheel springs are too weak, and ultimately the thing just frustrates my wife and makes me angry. Other comments describe the issues in detail, but the point is, they need to make everything work better because the design is there but nothing holds up.

Pros: gave 2 stars bc frame is sturdier than it looks and polyester fiberglass screen is pet resistant. Cons: wanted to set it on fire in an act of violent revenge. (Im including my advice on how to make installation better below but it's still not 100% correct no matter what I did.) Reasons for rating: 1) top white rollers are too narrow for a 3/4" open track "B" and this makes it wobble everywhere bc the track is too wide for the wheels; it falls out of line and sticks too easily as a result. 2) instructions provide a side-facing view; needs front-view and exploded view. 3) black plastic part that is supposed to fit into top metal groove of door doesn't actually fit it. the groove is trapezoid shaped and the black plastic fits as a square. I couldn't even FIGURE OUT what the heck those pieces did anyway! 4) The instructions are horrible; especially item #2. It makes ZERO sense and makes it seem like you're missing a part or supposed to remove an unknown piece and replace it with some other unknown piece with unknown instructions on how to do this, or are missing a step, or are fitting it improperly. 5) there are black and clear plastic pieces left over that have ZERO explanation in the instructions; what they are, what they are for, etc. So, I have left over pieces. Hope they're not important! 6) customer service sucks. They won't tell you they have redesigned the door, without updating the instructions, graphics and without updating the hardware packet. I felt violence rising up in me in dealing with them and they don't really care to help. 7) Sooooo, instead I went to the website given in the instructions called www. helpmeinstallit. com! The instructions promise installation videos! However, trying every single product number I could possible find (even trying to search by brand), that website cannot locate any some such product and thus I never got anywhere with that useless site. 8) The "recommended tools" are a lie. You will need a power drill and a skinny metal drill bit to pre-drill holes in the metal frame for the screws to the metal latch for the door lock. 9) the rubber bug guard is a disaster. The instructions picture and instruct a very different thing that I am looking at. And I couldn't get the door to sit flush anyway so I scrapped the bug guard. 10) These 4 expanding points are a terrible design and are 90% of the problem with this door not installing correctly or easily and the door not functioning properly. Tips for better installation: 1) turn all of the screws around. Some idiot put all of the screw heads facing inside the house. You will save yourself a headache, curse words, time and confusion if you just turn the around to outside facing where you can actually work. Think about that: how are you going to work on a door where 2 screws are behind a glass pane of the sliding door? Opening and shutting it will cause you nightmares if you haven't calibrated the height adjusters and you can't calibrate the height adjusters if the screen door isn't fully shut! So, turn those screws to face outside and BAM! miracle to be able to access the full door and work on it, without having to open and shut a door that isn't on tracks or taking it off every 5 seconds bc the adjustment you just did didn't work and you have to take it off again to gain access OR going out the front door, around the house and into the backyard time and again. 2) the wheels are spring loaded so they naturally push higher than your adjustments do. Hold them down tight so they don't artificially create more room in the door frame than is necessary. 3) Begin with the top adjusters. Open those suckers full blast! Those screws don't always "self-tighten" so you may have to hold the back of it to tighten it. And tighten it good. Any give and that door adjuster is going to shrink back down when you put pressure on it in the doorway. Use the easily reachable bottom adjusters to snug fit the door into the frame. Remember they're spring loaded so push up on the door til you get a decent fit, hold the door to the bottom adjuster so the screw is in the right place and doesn't go south and tighten that sucker. 4) Your house has shifted over time. That means the tracks are not perfectly flush, the vertical lines may have lost some parallel effect, the door frame may have bowing or contraction or jake-legging. That means that each of the 4 adjusters WILL be at different expansion lengths. If any one of them are off, the door will stutter and not move. 3) There is no way with the house shifting and the adjuster bars and 4 adjustment points you are going to get this door flush at every corner with the house. What matters is that it fits into the track when closed, opens and closes and is able to be locked. Mine still wants to stick and stutter some during sliding. I have done everything my highly educated, construction born and bred mind can think of. The view is awesome once it's up; but I guess for $68, Im going to have to settle for using two hands to open and shut it slowly and carefully and make sure it is in the track from top to bottom when it's shut or else it won't lock.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garbage, Garbage, Garbage Where do I start 1. HD says it will fit a standard 6' 8" door but with the frame fully extended it's a half inch too short. 2. The wheels are thin flimsy plastic so they will not stay on the track 3. The wheel springs are so weak the door bottoms out metal to metal under its own weight. 4. The frame does not stay square causing it to bind and come off the track. If you look there has not been a good review in over a year. HD most likely changed vendors and is now selling a product that DOES NOT WORK. DO NOT waste your time and money on this junk. My advise to HD: Take these off the shelf and find a new vendor that will manufacture to spec.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for The door is made very cheaply and really didn't fit the track properly at all. The height adjustmentment pieces on top and bottom cause a problem with closing properly. The rollers are very cheap and flimsy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this product Horrible quality, janky adjustment mechanism. You will regret this purchase. I am returning mine, either for refund or to have disposed of by the store

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product It works fairly well. It wasn't that expensive. I was able to install it with my limited tools and knowledge of repair work. Installation was a bit difficult even with instructions but that could just be me and the fact that the track was dirty. Unless you are familiar with repair work I recommend you have an assistant, it is easier with help.
