Mounting

Can I also put this on the inside of my window? I have bars on the outside, but they are loose, and I want to add extra security with bars on the inside too. I know it's a fire hazard, but I'm more concerned with criminals at this point.
Asked by: Kimberly
No. You would need a different kind of mounting feet, and I don't see that they sell any different ones.

Would thse stop ice from hitting the glass?

I have two ground level windows under a big overhang with a standing seam roof. Ice forms on the edge and falls off. Once there is a pile of ice/snow then another piece of ice can fall land on the inside of the pile and slide down and into my windows. Currently I lean a big piece of plexiglas with 1x 1 steel bars bolted on ever 16" but that is a lot to get out every fall and remove and store every spring. Would these bars take the banging and protect the windows?
Asked by: TB
Thank you for your interest in our Su Casa Window Guards. The bars are approximately 5 inches apart so it would depend on the size of the ice. I hope this information is helpful for you.

Can these be installed on a window that is 60" wide?

I don't see that these are made wider than 48", but the two windows I need them for are 60" width by 48" length. This is the closest product I've seen in my searching so far.
Asked by: Lynn
Thank you for your interest in our Su Casa window guards. You would need to order connector pins which would join two window guards together to reach your desired width. The connector pins can be viewed on homedepot.com using internet id #202098375. I hope this information is helpful for you.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good idea Security bars aren't something you should DIY unless you are a metalworking expert. If you do as I did and try to save money by ordering these inexpensive bars and installing them yourself, you will do a lot of hard work and also spend a fair amount of money, and you will not get the peace of mind that is the whole goal. One big problem with these bars is that they have a two-piece design where there are separate feet which are attached to the house, and the bars slide onto these. The problem here is that a burglar will be able to pry the bars off of the feet and remove them. Now, you could have those pieces welded together (as I have) or secure them with little screws. But even so, the metal of the bars is too flimsy. A burglar can easily bend it, and you might think that is ok because it still won't come off, but remember what happens when metal bends. Metal fatigues easily, and if you bend it back and forth just a few times then it will break. Now, I haven't witnessed this happening to these security bars. What did happen to me is that I installed nine of the Su Casa window sets and two of the Su Casa patio security doors, and then both of the doors were pried open within one week of install. So those doors don't work at all, and I've reviewed them separately. After that happened to me, I called a wrought iron company to get some real security doors, and they pointed out to me these problems with the window bars. And I believe now that what they told me is correct. I can flex those bars very easily myself, using just my own body weight (150lbs) and no pry bar. Imagine what a 200lb guy with a big pry bar might do. And it does not make much noise either, so if they have to spend 5 or 10 minutes working on the bars, they can do that. What you need for security is fully-welded bars with no separate pieces and which use a heavy enough metal that it will not flex even if a large man yanks on them using full strength. You will pay about 4x the price for bars (2x for doors), but that includes installation. Most importantly, when you're done you will actually have solved the problem that you wanted to solve.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad experience guard was severely damaged when I opened it up several of bars were bent, one was bent so bad it touched the other bar 3 more were bent I had to straighten them out in order to use the item I didn't return it because I had to have it installed that week and I live a ways form the store.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The bars are fine I give the bars a good review as they are made well and affordable. However, the one-way screws and socket that are to be used are horrible. Total junk. They may work with wood, but forget using them if you have concrete block.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Security Window Bars and Hardware This is an excellent roduct, was easy to install and was very strong. Will provide great security for the window. One way screw will prevent anyone from backing them out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Okay for the price These are the only security bars that were available, not the design we wanted but all we could get. Fairly sturdy, tubular bars. These will at least be a deterrent. Two of three that we ordered were slightly bent, but we did not return because it appears all the security bars at Home Depot are being discontinued. What a shame! They are easy to install with the recommended equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Customer Service from Unique Home Designs My initial came all bent and bad overall quality control. It was obvious the manufacturing was bad. After posting a negative complaint, the company Unique Home Designs followed up with me to fix the situation. They sent out a replacement order no questions ask. The window guard this time was in perfect condition. I have yet to install, but I did unwrap from packaging to inspect and the product was true to its description. Great company and customer service team. They seem to care to correct a bad item. Thanks again!
