Customer Reviews

Foot-Operated Fire Release Kit for Window Guards is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works! Just need patience to make it work. Installing the exterior hinge and locking mechanism was easy, just follow the install procedures. Now the interior install was a bit challenging. Removing the coil cover of the cable was hard coz you dont want to cut the cable inside. Make sure the coil cover does not touch the yellow kick lever. You have to pull the cable 1/2-1/3 before tightening the cable on the kick lever. This you have to try many times until both mechanism unlock at the same time. I would give it 5 stars but 4 stars for difficulty in the interior mechanism

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good to have one for emergency According to the law, window guards installed in the bedrooms must have a release installed in case of emergency so that the guard can be opened. Therefore, I had to replace the fixed mounting brackets with this type of releases for the bedrooms. The installation was not as simple as I thought. I had to hire a contractor to have them installed. It took more than an hour to have one installed. Overall, the release works as described. To release the wires which control the bullet used to hold the window guard, I had to kick it. That is a good protection because the bullet should not be accidentally released. Good value for emergency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top quality product This product met my needs perfectly for my rent house with custom-made bars on the window. I had to take the bars down and over to the local and cheap welding shop to have square tubing welded across the bars so the brakets supplied in this kit could slide into them. I installed three of these kits in about three hours not counting time to take the window bars down and get them welded. I did all the work myself and it would have been a lot faster with two people. Everything in this kit is of first quality even down to the screws and bolts unlike so many products I get today I was able to use the provided hardware instead of providing my own. The only item I had to buy was the one-way driver for the one-way screws. I've been needing that anyway and didn't mind spending the $15 for it. I don't know how the person said they broke this while trying to install it as you would have to do something really stupid. It is made that well. You are working with heavy steel and drilling through and bolting into studs with this project so you need strength to hold the window bars (mine way about 50 pounds each that I held in place with one hand while drilling with the other) during mounting and you should have some previous experience working on serious projects around the house. If you don't have either, ask your neighbor for assistance and do something nice for him/her. I highly recommend this kit to meet local codes of having a way to unlock the bars to get out in case of a fire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy and flexible I really like the two-point catch system. I have worked with single point releases in the past and this one is much better. Fairly easy to install with instructions that could use some simplifications. My only concern on appearance is that it was only available in black. Black is a hard color to cover easily.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Quality Avoid At All Costs Poor Quality, the Bolt which locks into place when the window is secured was welded crooked, had to compensate with where I drilled the holes. Installed the window kit which wasn't that easy to begin with, your drilled holes must be spot on or the window will not close. The final straw was when I had completed installation. After locking the window in place then testing the release, it jammed so bar would not lock in place again. Tried WD-40, oil, pliers, etc to get the lock to release at no avail. Had to slam it on the ground to get it to release, so now if I unlock, I can't relock with out removing the entire locking mechanism from the window frame. How did this ever get past QA? Very poor user experience and shoddy quality DO NOT BUY THIS!
