Will this detect propane

Asked by: SaraAnarchy
Great question Sara. I would not attempt to step in for the engineers of this product. Although natural gas and propane have some commonalities in their composition, there is no small print advising of propane coverage. I recommend calling USI's customer service at:1-800-390-4321 Ext:238.

What does this mean ".....interconnect able up to 24 compatible devices": that they can be daisy chained?

I'd like one that could actuate a ventilator or some kind of exhaust fan
Asked by: Marc
The interconnection mentioned in this product refers to the ability to connect these hardwired units to a common [not neutral line] line ran between the alarm mounts [often a red wire]. This "signal" line will allow a detecting alarm to activate all the other alarms when a detection occurs. This is not for actuation of exhaust ventilation, etc.

what does hard wired mean?

Asked by: rt
"Hardwired" means it is wired directly to your house wiring; ex. lights, outlets, etc. If your current fire alarms are wired in, this will replace them simply by replacing it with this. It has a 9v battery that is used as a backup in case the power to the house goes out.

Product easy to install, especially if replacing an existing hard-wired unit. Replaced old existing units, beyond life [one on first floor, two on second]. After 5months one of the second floor units began giving false CO alarms, typically during the heat of the day. Resetting the latch per instructions cleared alarm only to have it go off later in the day or within a day. Called manufacturer and they replaced with no questions other than if I had followed instructions. Now after another 9 months, another of the original 3 has started giving false CO alarms. Since all three were the same series [ESECD], I figure after getting the manufacturer to replace this, I will likely be back with the last of this same series. Other than this, these alarms are easy to test once you understand the 4 different alarms/light signals.

Even testing is a nightmare as the tested alarm unit often does not stop or triggers another alarm on the system to go off indefinitely. One unit sparked and sizzled (and yes wiring was correct) when the alarm breaker was turned back on. Spent a lot of money upgrading my house to have to uninstall everything, fight with HD to return it and purchase new ones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chirping noise will drive you crazy Thought I was being diligent & replaced all our 10 yr. old units with these new ones, 6 total. Within a week, one began chirping intermittently, waking the household. Replaced battery. Days later, same thing. Replaced the battery, & now two weeks later, the same chirping that never ceases! They are worthless & should be recalled! Will be removing all six & demanding a refund!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought 3 of these less then 2 years ago, and 2 are already defective I put an addition on my house less than 2 years ago, and bought all new smokes/smoke CO detectors throughout my whole house. I bought these because they weren't cheap, and I figured id be getting what I paid for. Well, already 2 of the 3 CO detectors are defective and beeping all the time giving false alarms. Ive had my local fire department verify it because I didn't want to take a chance that they were actual real alarms. Ive tried contacting the manufacturer 4 different times now, and I haven't received one call back or an email. do your self a favor and DO NOT BUY THESE!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would give zero stars if I could Worked for less than a year and constantly gave off false alarms for CO (always in the middle of the night!). Replaced batteries and continued to get false alarms. Contacted the company and they were less than helpful and charged me $11.00 for a replacement that I still have not received. While still waiting for a replacement another one of the alarms has also stopped working. Waste of money, just another worthless piece of garbage made in china.
