Product Overview

The new Solar Powered Fresh Air skylight lights up your home and provides proper ventilation using only the power of the sun. Do I have to wait for the solar panel to charge in order to power the window, if so how long does that take? There is no mention of this anywhere in the manual, or in the advertising materials.

Answer:
There is a very small Off/On switch at the bottom inside of the skylight that needs to be turned on before you start the registration/activation of the remote. The same thing happened to me.

Answer:
The installer hadn't worked with solar before and failed to turn on the very tiny red switch built into the inside of the frame before installation. I figured it out the next day, turned it on and the solar skylight is beautiful and works great!
That's usually the answer, right? Is the power turned on? ;-)

Answer:
Per our Technical Department, it is doable, but not recommended. It poses as an awkward situation and the weight of the sash makes it difficult to have control. It is much easier to remove the sash from on top of the roof deck. Thanks!

Answer:
It is separate. If you are installing a curb mount, it is not used by the roofer.

Hello. No, this model does not come with flashing; we generally do this because the type of flashing needed depends on your roof type. If you have a shingle, shake, or slate roof, you will need to order EDL C06 flashing. If you have a metal roof, you will need to order EDM C06 flashing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great skylight Framed the r.o. and it fit like a glove. Operation was very easy and the remotes work from the basement to the 3rd floor w/ no problem. August 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Loved the 30% tax credit Considering the 30% tax credit this seemed like a very good value. Remote set up very easy other than the instructions should have mentioned the On/Off switch on the skylight that must be on to activate the remote before beginning. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cool Skylights! These skylights transformed the room. I can't imagine why anyone would install those opaque plastic bubbles when these are available. We had a contractor install and I don't think he had any problems except the instructions for the blinds were useless -- a few pictures -- had to scour the internet for videos. The blinds were not difficult to install once it was clear how to do so. These things close as soon as it starts raining and the remote control is very easy to use and basically auto-configures itself. There are lots of features with the control that we haven't explored. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Solar power mades this one an easy option After much deliberation, on fixed or vented I am so glad I went wit the solar powered version. This makes my fifth skylight install, but my first that was done the correct way. I purchased the flashing kit, and Velux will back your installation for 10 years. Instructions were good, but youtube was very helpful. June 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love this skylight! I can't really talk about the ease of installation because my contractor did it. But I have had it for a year now and it doesn't leak. The remote control is very cool and I love how no electricity is required at all. Just cut a hole, install with flashing and patch the roof. It works like a charm and has totally transformed a dark bathroom. I am putting another one in my kitchen and a third in another dark bathroom. Very highly recommend this skylight. June 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by My wife loves it!! I wanted to install a replacement skylight on my home with power type unit so my wife could open an close it easier ,at the time the only one that was available was a hard wired system and that would make it to difficult to do myself . Velux was the answer ,the new solar powered skylight was my answer to my dilemma, I could install it myself without hard wiring it . I ordered it along with the Velux flashing kit through Home Depot online and received it in about a week right to my door . I went online and did my home work and watched the videos that Velux offered . It took me about 8 hrs to install the unit but that's because I had never installed one before , it went smoothly ,the flashing kit made it a breeze . Well we had a hard rain storm 3 days later and it works great with the automatic rain sensor , it closed the window and not a drop of rain got on our kitchen floor. We could never leave our old skylight open if there was even a chance of rain. My wife loves it , she loves the wireless remote (no more cranking) just push a button and it goes up or down . On those hot days when we get home we push a button and within an hr the house cools down 5-10 deg and saves on air conditioning. I would highly recommend these solar units, I'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run just in the savings on AC usage October 22, 2013
