Product Overview

VELUX skylight blinds can help turn an ordinary room into something special, and a variety of colors are available, so you can customize the look in your living space. During summer days when temperatures are high and the sun is extra bright, the blinds can be closed to reduce potential solar heat gain, and during winter nights when temperatures are low, the blinds can be closed to provide an extra layer of thermal insulation and keep warm air indoors. Blackout blinds convert day into night, blocking even the brightest sunlight, which makes them perfect for rooms that require total room darkening such as bedrooms or TV/entertainment rooms. They are ideal for afternoon siestas and light summer nights.

  • The blackout blind has an energy efficient aluminum coating on the non-visible exterior side which acts as a barrier and provides optimal protection against heat. This blind can improve your energy performance rating by as much as 45 percent, and reduces your heating and cooling costs due to the better natural climate control in your room
  • Maximum light blocking - tight design and light blocking fabric block sunlight so that less than 2 percent enters the room
  • Blackout blinds provide glare control by blocking direct sunlight to significantly reduce or eliminate glare on your tv or computer screen, which increases the versatility of the room
  • QPF series skylights come with Pick&Click brackets pre-installed for fast and easy installation of sunscreening blinds and accessories
  • Important: For FCM 3434 series skylights, accessory tray (ZZZ 199 3434) is required and sold separately with pick&click brackets built-in for fast and easy installation of sunscreening blinds and accessories
  • Manual control rod for blinds (ZXT 200) is sold separately for out-of-reach applications
  • DKC 3434 models are designed specifically for VELUX FCM/QPF 3434 series skylights
  • Installation on non-VELUX skylights or other VELUX models is not recommended
  • Color - dark blue with thermo coating (color 1100)
  • More colors are available for ordering through homedepot.com or special order at your local store
  • Skylight sold separately
  • Skylights with blinds factory-installed at no extra charge are also available

Answer:
I don't think so. According to the Velux website, the VCM skylight requires an electrically operated unit. Unfortunately the manually operated blackout blinds and the electrically operated units are not interchangeable. Give Velux a call @
800-888-3589 to confirm this info and/or ask if they offer another solution.

We do not offer a manual blind for the VCM 2246. We offer a solar powered blind, only.
Thank you.

I have two skylights and wanted to put blinds in them. The sides measure 45.25 by 21 inches.

I was looking at: VELUX Beige Manually Operated Blackout Skylight Blinds for FCM/QPF 2246 Models
Listed dimensions are 19.47 x 43.44.
It looks like it has to attach to the walls on all sides. Will this product be too small?

Answer:
Thanks for looking at VELUX blinds. Unfortunately, I can only say that our blinds are manufactured to fit specific VELUX skylights. If you have a VELUX skylight, then there is a good chance we may have a blind to fit. You may need to locate your serial number to determine the model and give us a call to find what may be available. We can be reached at 800-888-3589.

Replacement blinds needed for VELUX TPS606

This question is from White Manually Operated Blackout Skylight Blind for FCM/QPF 2246 Models

I need replacement blinds for two VELUX TPS606 roof windows. Each has external solar screens that are now starting to fray and tear. Unfortunately, VELUX does not support this product anymore and suggested that I simply replace both windows(!). I told them that I was not in the habit of buying a new car when my wiper blades went out, and that I had no intention of purchasing new VELEX windows to solve the problem. I am getting desperate, and would accept any solution that involved outer or inner shading. Any suggestions?

Answer:
In order for us to provide blinds, we will need the serial number from your skylight. Here is a link that will assist in finding that number: http://www.veluxsolutions.com/solutions_website/product_id_locator.html

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Serves Its Purpose Bit of an extravagance (price-wise) and I can only hope that it serves its purpose when those bright, sunny days of Summer return. The directions are in "picture form", not written, so pay close attention to the detailed drawings when installing this shade onto the skylight. IMPORTANT: One end of both side rails must be installed correctly into the top head rail so that the flexible shade will slide smoothly along a slot molded in each rail (Step #3). Remember to predrill the pilot holes for any mounting screws and don't over tighten them. Finally, when closing the retractable shade, be sure to slide it parallel with the skylight - avoid pulling it towards you or the shade could pull out of the side rails track. Take your time, be observant and you won't have any problem. October 21, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Loved this for 3 days...when it broke I loved this skylight blind for 3 days, when the small loop used for opening and closing the blind snapped right off. I'd opened it no more than 3 times when this happened. Maybe I just got a bad one? I hope it was just a fluke that I got a poor quality one, because I wanted to recommend this. Aside from the durability factor, it's actually a cool product. It's very streamlined so it doesn't bulk up the skylight when opened or closed. It also works seamlessly with the other Velux products (installation tray and hook) which is nice. (You do need the tray in order to install the blind). I was worried the blackout blind might look cheap (as some blackout material does), but it's really sleek while also being effective at blocking out the light. As a point of reference, the blind is similar in material to the vinyl roller blinds you can buy at Home Depot for regular windows. (Thicker and more opaque) Good to know: Install the blind (and tray) when you're installing the skylight for easiest installation. I'd already installed the skylight when I decided to put this in (I hadn't realized how much direct sun I'd be getting). Because it was installed after, it was a bit more involved- required my contractor access the skylight from the roof, etc. It wasn't incredibly difficult to do just a little more involved than if we'd installed it with the skylight itself. I'm annoyed I now have to take it down and return it because of the flaw, but I will likely get another one because the fit was so good with the Velux skylight. May 22, 2013
