I.e. does it save a lot of time to order this and the tray to be installed/fitted prior to installing the fixed skylight?

Answer:
Yes, it can. However, you will need to purchase the ZZZ 199 Accessory Tray in addition to the blind. Also, you will need to lift the FCM off of the curb to insert the accessory tray into the opening (inside frame), then place the FCM back on the curb.
Thank you.

I think I answered this or a similar question a few days ago. I had the same question myself, because I had seen a review describing the difficulty of installing the blind and tray AFTER installing the sky light. My wife and I had no trouble installing the blind and tray BEFORE installing the Sky light, in fact it was fun doing it.

Answer:
If ordering a blind for the FCM, you must also order an accessory tray. If ordering for the QPF model, the blind comes with everything you will need to install it. You may need the out of each rod for each application (ZXT 200) Thank you.

The description shows this to be the blind only. You can order the FCM or QPF with this blind factory installed. See your local Home Depot associate for details.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sky Lights and Blinds My wife and I decided to replace our old sky lights. A new roof was to be installed. We also decided to install blinds. I read some reviews. Several indicated difficulty to assemble and install. On one Review I almost decided not to purchase the blinds. But the blinds looked "Cool" , my wife wanted them. We were going to hire a person to install them. I bought the blinds and the associated "Trays". Most of the time we are a D.I.Y. (do it yourselfer). We opened the boxes. The plans and instructions were clear and seemed easy to do it ourselves. The first blind took a little while (about 1/2 hour). The second was very easy (15 minutes). We installed the trays and blinds into the sky lights. The "roofers" were familiar with the Home Depot Sky lights and blinds. They told us we did a great job. They installed the sky lights in less than 1/2hour. Oh, almost forgot, my wife is 83 years young. I am 87. She is the "Blinds Operator". I enjoy watching her "Show them off." September 26, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use, easy to install and reduces room temp by about 5 degrees We installed Velux kerb mounted skylights during a re-roof and decided to buy some blinds to see if we could cool the room a little more in the summer as well as protecting the furniture from the sun's UV rays. We installed a couple of these blinds and found that when closed, the room is about 5 degrees cooler and the air conditioning is cycling less as a result. They are also very easy to slide open and closed using the Velux telescoping blind hook. Firstly, I wouldn't recommend buying these blinds without the accompanying Velux accessory tray. The accessory tray is easy to assemble and install (I wrote a separate review about this) and includes the click-link pegs that the blind mounts to. Since there aren't many color choices, we went with the white version to match the plastic frame of the accessory tray. Once you have installed the accessory tray, installing the blind takes about 15 minutes. Firstly you install a couple of corner brackets which require one screw. The accessory tray came with a small drill bit and we used that to drill the pilot holes for the screws. With the corners in place, you then fit the blind which is a push fit until it clicks into the mounting pegs that are pre-fitted in the accessory tray frame. I actually had to hit this gently with my closed hand to get it to pop into place and stay there. With the blind mounted and the corners fitted, you then slide in a couple of aluminum tracks that the blind runs along. With the tracks fitted, you then drill 3 holes and screw the tracks to the accessory tray frame. I found that I had to press lightly on the aluminum track to make sure it was snug to the bottom corner of the accessory tray frame before drilling the screw holes to make sure both tracks were parallel with each other. With the tracks on, you unwind the two guide strings and clip them into place in each corner and that's it. When we were trying to decide which type of blind to get, we opted for the manual version as opposed to the solar powered version as we have a single story room where the skylight is about 10-12' from the floor and we figured there was less that could go wrong over time. Opening and closing the blinds is very effortless with the telescoping hook that Velux sells separately although my wife did manage to 'pop' the hook ring out of the aluminum blind frame on her first try. This was simple enough to fix where I was able to push the ring back into the grooves in the blind frame. All in all, for me to fit two accessory trays and two blinds was about 1 - 1/2 hours work and the end results were well worth the effort, both aesthetically and in reducing the radiated heat from the sun in the house through the skylights.
