What is the difference with FCM 2246 0005? Which one is better?

Asked by: Nicky
The FS C06 is a Deck Mounted Unit. It installs directly to the roof deck and has a minimum pitch requirement of 14 degrees (3/12). This is used mostly in new applications. The FCM 2246 is a Curb Mounted Unit. It installs over a site-built curb and has a minimum pitch requirement of 0 degrees (0/12). This is great for replacing bubbles or glass units that are on an existing curb. They are both great for their own purposes. I hope this is helpful to you. Thank you for choosing VELUX!

I would ignore the product name/description and just go by the model number and rough opening dimensions in the Specs. Retailers don't always have the best way to describe a product and try to use the same naming standards across products of all types. They really can't and shouldn't do that with skylights because the actual dimensions of the product do not matter at all, and what exactly was measured to come up with those dimensions? The furthest edges of the skylight (that will be hidden under roofing materials) or the portion of the skylight that will be visible above the roofing materials? Neither of those dimensions are relevant in any way. Just ignore the description and go with the rough opening. Literally the only thing that matters is if the hole in your roof is perfectly covered by the skylight.

How do I repair my leaking skylight

I have a velux deck mounted unit about l6 years old which is sudddenly leaking in lower left hand corner of raised portion of glass and frame. How can I best repair this problem?
Asked by: Anonymous
Depends on the location of the leak. If it is around the glass you may be able to get some good quality silicone and just caulk around the glass. If it around the base then you have to tar the area were you think the leak is or take off the shingles and re flash. Sometimes you may be best off just replacing the whole unit because with these things you usually just end up chasing leaks.
