The skylights are gorgeous and do not leak....the builder said they are easy to install. I put 7 in a row on a deck ceiling ...stunning!

I installed two earlier model Velux skylights about 15 years ago in my wife's studio. We love them. No leaks. I put in one of these in the main bathroom earlier this year. After seeing the result, I bought this one for the master bathroom.
Be aware that the 10 year guarantee against leaks is only valid if you also buy the Velux flashing kit, which is sold separately. If you value your time at all, the Velux kit is cheaper than trying to make the flashing yourself and the piece of mind is well worth it.

Contractors did not have a problem installing. So far they function well, look much better (give an appearance of a larger room).

Each of these windows has their own unique serial number and Velux stands behind their product. The installation was easy because I installed them myself when I was installing my own new roof. The first rain came and I slept like a baby. No leaks whatsoever. I recommend you buy the flashing kit. My only regret was not installing the electric remote control units. I installed the fixed 21 in x 45 in units and they fit perfectly between the rafters without any structural modifications to the roof.

Really nice skylight, bought with the matching flashing kit that was available in stores. It was the right size to fit between our roof joists. Installation was challenging, but not impossible as a DIY project on a shingle roof.

I ordered this skylight and handed it over to my roofer to be installed. He attempted to put some pitch around the the flange. It looked ugly. The pine wood structure was exposed. When I went to my local store they told me I needed a VELUX flashing kit. The skylight was $233. Now I would need a $285 flashing kit for a shingled roof. They also recommend a $340 solar shade for the window. My $233 skylight has bloomed into a $850 skylight. When ordering the flashing kit (after the fact) requiring my roofing guy to come back, they show a $85 flashing kit as an alternate. I can not figure out what the difference between the two is. I am hoping the $85 will in fact work. I think HD should be more proactive in selling a product ready for installation. It should be much clearer that the unit is not complete w/o the flashing. It should be sold as a package.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Jack Don't forget to buy the flashing kit.
I bought three of these without the flashing kit. My contractor felt he could make flashing cheaper. But after two tries with two different contractors, I had to order the flashing kits. The instructions are ambiguous without flashing kit. Once I received the flashing kits with their instructions, it was a snap. With cost of flashing kit adding almost $100 to price of skylight, they would not be competitive if the kits were included. I certainly would have looked at another brand.

Have had two of these for 17 years---not a long time in house years. My roofer tells me my leak is due to a failed factory seal. Velux says too bad---it's out of warranty. Check and compare warranties carefully before you buy.
