If the coating is bonded well, for best adhesion results, scuff sand the entire surface before application. Read Less

Answer:
Rust-Oleum Polyurethane will help protect your wood floors from pet accidents if they are cleaned up quickly. However, if they are left to sit and soak in, it can penetrate the coating over time.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by UNBELIEVABLE! This product probably cost more than the average water based poly, but worth every penny! Do not use wool to apply. We used an 18 inch shed less high quality 3/8 nap roller. Cut in the edges with a foam brush or 4 inch foam roller. We put down 3 coats, one coat every 4 hours. We DID NOT SAND AT ALL. This product saved so much time and looks great! So smooth! September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by TERRIBLE Product I have spent months sanding and staining my hardwoods and when the time came to use a polyurethane, this product was recommended as the best, high traffic, and scratch resistant available. The product was indeed low VOCs and easy to apply. The floors were beautiful until the first person walked across my months of hard labor. The floors have been completed for nearly 2 full months and must be done again. THIS PRODUCT DID NOT RESIST SCRATCHES! I am very disheartened. The floor is so scratched and I must start over from square one. I will NEVER use this product again and certainly will never recommend. Pictures are attached showing 4 coats and the horrible scratches. December 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by outstanding furniture finish Tried this water based finish on a folding wing table i built out of gray elm and lyptus. Sprayed beautifully and dried to a nice satin finish in a few hours. Leveled out well even on vertical surfaces. If a run does occur backbrush with cheap foam brush and still levels nicely. waited to recoat until next day. Scuff and tack off with damp then dry paper towel.the product provides a nice hard finish, but really needs about 30 days to fully cure. The Best part is easy clean up and No Oder!! rinse gun with water , then dry and lubbricate. Can shoot in the heated garage in winter and no smell in the rest of the house. My never use oil base again!! January 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by smooth and easy I refinished hard wood oak floors used an oil based stain, i then let it dry for 4 days. After that I finished floors with 4 coats of varathene. Waited about an hour between coats didn't need to sand in between. Went on smooth and crystal clear with a brush pad applicator sold by HD. Used about a gallon and a half for 400 sqft. Dries fast and barely any odor what so ever. I did it when it was cold outside so I couldn't even have windows opened and you still wouldn't have known. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Purchase was easy I was able to order online and the package arrived within a few days. I was impressed with the service as this was the first time I placed an online order. This brand of polyurethane is in my opinion superior to the other brands. I can definitely recommend this product to other prospective buyers. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by top quality This stuff is awesome. Even with all of my amateur mistakes, since this is the first time I've ever refinished a floor, it still turned out great. Not only that, I have two Labrador mutts and their toenails don't affect the finish at all. Some people have asked specifically about the coverage, as the can says it covers 400 sq. ft. So, the question was if that was 400 sq. ft. for one coat, or if it was 400 sq. ft. of the recommended 4 coats. For my project, which was about 500 sq. ft., I did the full 4 coats as recommended and I was only a little into the second can. So 400 sq. ft. for the full job per can. Also, I did mine in sections so that I could do a little bit at a time after work each day. You can't tell that, though. It blends together perfectly. I know that some people complain that the price is too high, but the fact is it costs more sometimes to manufacture quality products. When you consider that you're probably looking at a finish that is going to last at least 10 years, the price difference is trivial vs. trying to mess with an inferior product. January 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product - would recommend for anyone needing to polyurethane a floor or whatever. The shipping box was sturdy; however, both cans had small dents in them and I couldn't tell if it happened before or during shipping - but they were OK. I would purchase this product again and actually will be doing so in the spring when I refinish a couple more floors. I'm very happy with the product. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great used it on a 50 year old reclaimed oak floor we just installed. Dries fast and doesn't have that really wet look. We ended up applying 3 coats all within two hours of each other to avoid sanding in between coats. Worked perfect. July 14, 2015
