Answer:
I used a Shure-Line paint pad. Worked great - just apply in THIN coats - multiple times.

Answer:
I use a hand rubbed technique with a staining pad. It is very easy, 4 coats, then rub down with #0000 steel wool, tack cloth it down, then 2 more hand rubbed coats. only takes a few hours, and the cost of the steel wool and rub pad are the same as 1 brush

Answer:
I layed down two coats within an hour of each other with a pad not lambswool. Then I sanded. Then I added two or three more coats depending on how it looks with light sanding and cleaning between the final coats. It is better to put on thin coats and more of them then trying to put too much product on the floor. This is an amazing product. It needs to be available in store....

Answer:
We do not recommend applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Floor Finish with a roller actually. Using a roller will over work the product and push bubbles into the film. We recommend using a good quality, synthetic brush, foam brush or applicator pad to apply the finish.

Answer:
Varathane Floor Finish Polyurethane can be applied over an oil-based stain. We recommend ensuring the stain is fully cured before applying polyurethane. For best results, use Varathane Wood Stains prior to use. http://www.homedepot.com/s/varathane%2520stain?NCNI-5

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Zero Durability. Defective Batch? Given the great results everyone else has posted, I'm going to guess I received a defective batch. I applied this product exactly as described, and even used a Varathane brush. When I was done, I gave it 8 days before stepping on it (Varathane recommends 3 days). On the 9th day I had company over. The finish is scratched to the point where the floors look 10-15 years old already. Obviously I'm extremely disappointed. On the bright side, after a call to Home Depot customer service it looks like I will be able to return the product. August 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by quality product I used this product on my oak floors, which had already been sealed with polyurethane. The reason I did it was to fill in dog scratches in the flooring, left to me by the previous owner. I put it on fairly thick. It dried quickly, produced a nice medium gloss, and best of all, made most of the scratches disappear ! I used a good brush, and it left no brush marks. Clean up with water was a snap. NO HARMFUL ODORS. Less toxic. August 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointed! I would recommend the product itself, not the customer service. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT Product! Easy to apply... no bubbles at all. Just use multiple THIN coats and floors will come out beautifully. If applied this way, you can apply another coat in as little as 90 minutes. And it is water-based, so brushes and trays clean up extremely easily! May 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I love this poly! I used this on my main hardwood floors 2 years ago & loved it. I went back for more this year, and found out i had to by TWO GALLONS on line. I only needed one gallon, but didn't want to change brands, so I bit the bullet & bought the pair. Luckily I also find it is great for a clear finish on unfinished fine wood furnishing. Looks great on walnut. Virtually indestructible, so eventually I will use it all up. Great product. Frustrating availability. April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A must have for furniture I refinish/refurbish furniture, and I like this product, for the no-odor and easy clean up. I do not brush or roll it, I use the hand rubbed method to get a smooth 6 coats, and it goes a long way. My customers love the look. March 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by good product as far as paint goes this product is easy to use and very little smell. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best floor finish product made This product was removed from the store to make rooom for an inferior minwax product. Since home depot won't carry it I've talked my local Ace Hardware into stocking this product so I won't have to mail order. Oh on the mail order the cans showed up crushed and hard to open. Also my friends who do commercial work are mad that Home Depot ditched this product for instore in favor of the minwax product. This product is incredibe. I've done 2500 square feet in my home with it and it dries fast and looks great. December 22, 2015
