Answer:
To ensure the color of a wooden surface remains as is, we recommend using a water-based product as well as testing the product in a small inconspicuous area to ensure desired results. Use Varathane Water-Based Spar Urethane, instead. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-gal-Clear-Satin-Water-Based-Exterior-Spar-Urethane-Case-of-2-250231/202057148

What is the difference between Model 9331, 9332, and 242182 Varathane Satin Oil based Spar Urethane

I need a Satin finish Spar Urethane and there are 3 different Varathane oil based alternatives. The Home Depot comparison page indicates no differences (price, coverage, finish, drying time, number of coats, time between coats, etc.) between Model 9331 (no VOC rating in name), 9332 (350 VOC), and 242182 (275 VOC). What are the differences and why would I choose one over the other?

Answer:
You guessed it, Tom. The main differences in these coatings are the VOC rates. Several states have VOC requirements so the products have been formulated to fit these standards. They will all work as advertised to fit your needs.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Exterior Urethane The product can says the urethane is clear, but it gives a noticeable yellow tint to whatever you put it on. We put it on a white background and ended up with a light yellow planter box. September 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GREAT EXTERIOR OIL-BASED FINISH I've used this before. Good product, great waterproof finish. May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I absolutely love the results I got from the product. It ws very easy to get a smooth clean application with the product. This product was just the ticket for the finish I was looking for on the barnwood end tables I made. I really liked the ease of application with a brush. March 15, 2016
