I applied this product 4 years ago. I has held up wonderful but needs a new light coat. How would you recommend?

Asked by: KW6892
Prior to reapplication of Rust-Oleum Varathane Floor Finish Polyurethane previously finished floors in good condition should be cleaned with a TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) solution in water, and rinsed thoroughly with clean water. Lightly sand the surface and remove sanding residue for best adhesion of the new coat.

Can this product be sprayed with an airless sprayer?

Happy to clear things up, Chris. For the best results, we recommend applying Rust-Oleum Varathane Water-Based Floor Polyurethane with a good quality, synthetic bristle brush, foam brush or applicator.

I am considering painting my bathroom and entryway ceramic tiles white and was wondering if this would work to seal it? I'm concerned about the yellowing of an oil-based but have heard it is more durable.

Our 1-gal. Clear Satin Water-Based Floor Polyurethane is a water-based polyurethane, and should dry crystal clear over painted surfaces. We recommend allowing the paint to dry for a minimum of seven days prior to applying the polyurethane to ensure there is no moisture entrapment. It is also important to apply thin, even coats to prevent yellowing during application. We also recommend making sure that the paint you choose is recommended tiles and

Customer Reviews

1-gal. Clear Satin Water-Based Floor Polyurethane is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice to work with, but it is expensive... When we purchased this house, one room upstairs had some dark brown hardwood flooring which was a mess. Being that we are still unsure of exactly how the final flooring will look like in that area of the house (other priorities), we decided to sand the old floor down to the bare wood, and buy a gallon of Varathane brand Diamond Clear Satin Water-Based Floor Finish... Our intent was to refinish the room, and have a nice floor that was bright, with a nice finish, all at the lowest possible cost. We did a four hour Floor Sander rental from Home Depot, and went at it. Because the room was only 10' x 10', we brushed this product on by hand, putting on three coats. Considering the conditon and color of the floor before hand, it now looks GREAT. The varathane has darkened the wood a bit, but it is still very light.. almost exactly what we were hoping for. The job we did may not be PRO, but it sure is close, and you could not tell just by looking at it. We are very pleased with this product, how it went on,, and the finished look it gave to our old floor. Only time will tell how well it will wear and perform. Considering that we had a 100 sq ft floor space to cover, and we did that three times, we still have about 1/4 of a gallon in the container available to use on other future projects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from use on all my cabinets I have used this product with great results on kitchen cabinets and furniture I have built. It is wonderful to use, dries fast and looks great, plus there are no fumes! I use a foam brush or HVLP sprayer to apply. Note: I always seal wood (if not oil based stained) with Zinsser wax free shellac.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some Metals will make Water Based Products Be careful what you use too stir all Water Base Chemicals because certain Metals will change your Product to all different Colors. Other than that, this Stuff is Awesome. I found using a Cheap Paint Brush with thin Coats works the Best. It gets Hard as a Rock and is even Tough to Sand if you Applied it Right

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Product I have used this product at two of my houses. I have a 120lb Bull Mastiff and a cat. This product is great. For re-screening every 2 years at my home its easy, self leveling. If you apply it on a floor that has no finish to it, you will need at least 4 coats. Follow the instructions!
