Answer:
Hi Mac,
Stain may be applied to bare wood only, thus you will have to sand off the paint down to bare wood if you want to stain it. If you want a darker color you can paint the cabinets, without stripping them.

Answer:
Mark, Varathane Stain and Polyurethane is not intended for floors. It is not designed to withstand foot traffic. Instead, apply Varathane Wood Stain in black cherry and protect the surface with Varathane Floor Finish. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Varathane-1-gal-Clear-Satin-Water-Based-Floor-Polyurethane-Case-of-2-230231/202057141

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great way to speed up finishing Finishing, especially when staining is involved can be a tedious and long task trying to match pieces. Using a combo of stain and finish makes the whole process much easier. You can control the color match by either increasing or decreasing the coverage of the finish. Highly recommend this product, especially when working with difficult materials like Cherry. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works as advertised. It works. Hard to clean up incase you drop some on the floor. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful I used this stain on our master bathroom cabinet. We remodeled the bath and didn’t want to replace the cabinet since it was in great shape but it needed a facelift. Stain went on smooth and was easy to work with. It looks great. I put on two coats, over the light oak wood. I did not put on a coat of clear varnish on top of it, I think it’ll hold up fine without it. July 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great Had to use this brand as my usual one was not available. It worked just great. Nice finish and color was true to example. February 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome product If you are looking for stain and poly mix this is the one for you! I've used it now to coat three doors and trim in my house and have not been disappointed October 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excelent product one coat is enough After prepare the surface very well and clean it up I applied this stain (2 in 1) and one coat was enough after that I reinforce the bright with a clear coat and done. September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, I have been using it for several years for furniture restoration. I use this product for furniture restoration, sprays well and coverage is OK, it makes for easy clean up since its Warner based. September 1, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better Choice This brand is a much better choice over the MinWax brand. Varathane dried faster, did not have a strong order like MinWax, and the color was true to the color indicated. I purchased to apply to steps in home and because it only took 1 coat I didn't even use 1/4 of the qt can. Will not buy MinWax for future projects. March 7, 2015
