Was not too thick, not too thin but just right. Went on nicely.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Spike Outstanding clear satin oil-based exterior spar urethane!
I had 2 unfinished wooden chairs and wanted to protect them from the AZ heat. This product was extremely easy to use, unlike other oil-based products. It provided a great finish and one that will last for a long time.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WWM Varathane Exterior Varnish
Am a amateur wood worker that has built many things finished in Stain & Varnish.
1st time I used Varathane exterior, oil based, semi gloss was 1980 for a water bed. Great product then, have used it many times on different projects with great results, till I got sick in 2008 .
Now, back to my hobby. Had to special order at Home Depot, not a problem. But product received applies extremely thick and does not dry to an even coat. Sanded lightly and re applied, still results in thick streaks in direction of brush strokes. Brush strokes are not evident but "clumps of streaks" of various widths are. I am using goat hair natural China Beaver Tail bristles brush, is a new one, but the same type I have used before.
Completely sanded my work, 3 times and started over with new stain and re applied Varathane with the same results. Spoke with the factory about my problem and they had no solution or recommendation. Started experimenting by thinning with Mineral Spirits a little at a time. A 50/50 mix seemed better but still had streaks.
Enough of this, re-sanded, and re-stained then applied Min Wax product. Results are OUTSTANDING.
I will eventually try the Varathane interior that I also purchased. We'll see what happens, but for now this product, after many years of good success, is completely unacceptable.
The table in the photo is Alder, Golden Pecan stain, with Varathane exterior built 2007.
The Silverware box is Ash, Cherry stain. The present piece in this discussion.

Do you have Honey Oak in your laundry and bathrooms?
Thinking about replacing it with marble and tile but run into the final cost of installation? The Varathane, Spar Urethane in the clear/ Satin finish is the answer to cleaning up your old water stained Oak trim. Lightly sand water spotted areas and go over with light coats and wala good as new! Make sure you let each coat dry before next coat is applied.
