Customer Questions & Answers

Can I mix this with another color from the same line?

The reviews here indicate this color might be too light to make any difference in the wood. I am looking for a light to medium gray color. I think the "Weathered Gray" will be too dark and the "Sunbleached" too light. Can I mix them together?
Asked by: Amy
If looking for a custom color with Varathane Stain and Polyurethane it is recommended to mix tints from the same line to help ensure product performance. It is recommended to make one batch to ensure that the color will be uniform. Make sure to thoroughly stir the product prior to use and during to ensure that no pigment settles. We recommend testing in a small are first to ensure the desired results.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, but SUPER light. The product worked well as far as the poly, but after 5 coats on Rubber Tree wood (common from Bare Woods type furn dealer) the color was an Extremely light tint of gray. With one coat I couldn't even tell there was a gray tone to it. After 5 coats it is no where near the color of the samle on the can. Granted it did treat with one coat of pre-stain before application, but just be warned it is very light gray. Also, im not an expert on Rubber tree wood, maybe that has something to do with it. Lastly, it did cause grain pop (mentioned on the can) that had to be sanded down after the first coat.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed This product leaves a blue-ish 'glazed' look at best. I applied 3 coats on an unfinished pine table and it did nothing. A waste of time and money, now I have to sand the table down and start again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks like clear poly with a hint of bluish gray after several coats... I wanted the color in the description.:: or was at least hoping for close to it. After the first coat there was a poly shine..: second... Same thing with a hint of blue/gray... Third time was almost the same, MAYBE slightly darker? 4th coat was about the same... I spent $$ just for a waste of time and effort. Yes, I light sanded between coats but there was minimal difference in color. It looked nothing like the can pic or the website pics... It looked minimally different than clear poly. I sanded it and started over with a light wash of my chalk paint mixed with water and it was exactly what I wanted.., The grain showed through beautifully and I topped that with a coat of poly since its in a high traffic area and I didn't want to use wax... Wish I would have just started with what I had in the first place instead of wasting my time and money
