Answer:
Hello Gene,
I apologize for the confusion on this. The fan is only a single speed and is not compatible with a solid state speed controller. The specifications on the website incorrectly state that the fan is a variable speed unit.

The unit does not come with a thermostatic control, however any thermostat or controller that is rated for 10A/120VAC can be used to control this fan.

Rated 2.9 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by kinda cheap While this is a good size, we found the outside metal sides do not meet and had to build corners for the entire piece. Also the luvers will not close with out manually going outside and pushing on them. But the fan blows good ! ha August 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good medium use extractor Good medium use extractor. Two used to vent heat from a warehouse during hot summers. But specs do not including CFM rating. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product The product I saw on line said it was 14in. opening, but when we got it, it was larger than what I expected, about three inches larger, that's why we returned it. July 6, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product returned Fan looked well made installed and vibrated excessively appeared shaft bent returned to store and received refund no questions asked. Home Depot good to deal with product damaged or inferior. May 27, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Okay purchase The fan is good quality but was poorly packed in shipment and was dented and had to be fixed before installing. February 17, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Cheaply built. Screws to long hitting the fan. Had to rebuild the housing. Poor inspection by manufacturer. September 30, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality materials This product is hardly not what I expected and I would not categorize it as industrial. It is advertised as "... housing is made of galvanized steel...". The only metalic components I find are the wiring in the motor and the screws into the plastic housing. The advertisement also indicates "...The exterior shutters close tightly...". The shutters do not shut tightly and in no way would prevent a draft. September 6, 2011
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good size but not as sturdy as we'd hoped Motor is good, but The louvers are very very light and flimsy. Almost the weight of an aluminum beer can, so they are vulnerable to damage and flap around a lot. Wished we could have looked at it before purchase but this product in ONLY available as an on line purchase August 31, 2011
