I am considering using these panels to enclose my yard. There is a steep drop at the end of my yard. Assuming they are firmly attached to firmly anchored posts are the panels strong enough to prevent children from falling over?
Asked by: Markus
Based on my experience with this fence, I do not think they are strong enough and the pickets would likely crack and break if a child fell into it.

Can this be used for a temporary fence?

Thank you for your question. Yes, the material could be used for a temporary fence if designed only for appearance or boundary marking and not for containment.

Can the composite picket fence be painted white?

Asked by: diy1
Thank you for your question. We generally do not recommend painting of the composite pickets as paint does not adhere well long-term. The beauty of a composite is that it does not require painting to maintain its appearance, and you require a white fence, we would suggest vinyl or wood.

I believe I made a bad choice for the following reasons: 1. Height. This is not a very high fence at 3.5' high. The display at the HD has the fence panel mounted about a foot off of the ground, giving the appearance of a higher fence than what is actually is. This is my fault for not noticing the display height vs. the actual height, but it is somewhat short. 2. Durability. The description on the HD web site says that this is a durable fence. It is not. When the fencing was delivered to me, (I purchased 13 panels) it came stacked and banded. The weight of the package caused the panels at the bottom of the stack to bend. Around eight pickets on the bottom of the stack were cracked and broken. I called customer service and received replacement pickets promptly, however this should have been a red flag that this product is not especially strong. In the two years I had this fence in place across the back of my yard, I have had to replace six pickets which broke off below the bottom horizontal support. (Fortunately, I had extra pickets sent to me initially by customer service) Any blow to the bottom of the fence by a kicked soccer ball or pressure against the fence by a lawnmower causes the picket to crack and break off. I expected much better durability when I bought this fence. Overall, I should have purchased and installed a wooden picket fence and dealt with painting it every three years or so. It would have been taller and stronger than this cheaply made product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Inspect at Store Before Pickup I ordered 5 panels for between my house and garage, and 10 replacement pickets to have on-hand incase any of them break in the future. I also ordered the matching fence posts, and had those shipped to my house so I could start putting them in the ground before the panels arrived. The fence posts arrived via UPS within a few days, and were fine. However, I had the panels and spare pickets delivered to the store so I didn't have to pay for shipping. They did arrive sooner than expected. However, before I signed everything out of the store, I decided to inspect the boxes to ensure no damage had occurred. One of the spare pickets was missing, and I was given a refund on that. But, 4 of the 5 panels had one or two broken pickets on each panel... only one arrived whole. I opened all of the boxes before leaving the store, and urge anyone else ordering these items to do that same. I was given the solution of returning the whole order and trying again... which seemed to me like it could be an endless cycle of order/return until maybe one time they would all come in whole. Needless to say, I took the damaged panels, and used the replacement pickets to fix what I had ordered (and the picket cost was eventually credited back to me). So, my advice... INSPECT YOUR ORDER, OPEN EVERY BOX, AND LOOK CLOSE TO SEE IF THE PANELS HAVE BROKEN OR CRACKED PICKETS ON THEM BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE STORE! Now that I have it installed, it looks nice. I think my only complaint is that the horizontal boards are hollow, with wooden inserts in them, and if you put in a gate like I did, then you see the exposed wood showing which looks tacky. THere needs to be some kind of cap that goes on the end to hide this and prevent insects from invading or water from penetrating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor quality fabrication The three sections of picket fencing made from man-made wood came with several pickets missing tops or bottoms. The missing pieces weren't in the separate packing of each section--very poor quality control. In addition two of the sections were painted red and one was gray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is a perfect fit fo ra low maintenance garden visual The product meets all my aesthetic and low maintenance requirements. It adds a great architectural detail to the garden and a nice visual background for the wildflowers planted in front of the fence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice little fence This was exactly what I was looking for, a maintenance free, stylish fence to back a small garden. The main complaint I have with this fence was the fact that two pickets were broken upon receipt. Of course, when I picked them up at the store they were wrapped in cardboard and shrink wrap. It wasn't until I was at home that I discovered the broken pickets. I realized that since I had to cut one panel short anyways, I could re-purpose two of those pickets because it was easier than going back to the store. Because of this, I question the durability of the pickets. I will save the two extra pickets I have for replacement if needed. The installation of the fence went relatively smooth. I didn't use the directions as they didn't offer much help. I dug out the holes and set up the fence to make sure I measured everything correctly. This was tricky because I couldn't set the posts without having the panels in place already. I set the two outside posts first and then lined up the two middle posts with the fence panels in before loading the last two holes with concrete. I had to put some shims in the fence post slots to keep the fence panel from jiggling. After five hours of installation (with no help), I am happy with the way the fence looks. I just hope it is durable enough to withstand some bumps from my kids.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great, but... After seeing these at HD (in another color) we bought this fence online for the edge of a deck and to keep dogs out of a vegetable garden. We bought 8 sections of fencing, 9 posts for the project, and some extra rails and pickets for small sections. Overall we love the material and the look. From that perspective I would recommend and buy these again in a heartbeat. However, a number of things led to the pretty bad review. First, as previously mentioned by others in their reviews we received some pre-built fencing with broken pickets when they arrived. HD replaced these free of charge, however the person I worked with at the service counter first tried to charge me for the broken pickets, but when I objected, she had to make a phone call, which took extra time. In the end they did replace the picket free. Second, because I changed my mind a little mid-project (never, happens, right?) I decided to order more and extend the fence a little. I bought two more rails for the extension and some more pickets. The rails when they arrived came in the wrong color! So back to HD for a refund, and then another order online. Finally, and worst of all, about half the pre-built sections were assembled slightly crooked, in that the two rails were offset by 1/2" or more. Not only did they not fit between my posts well, but even if they did, the pickets were clearly not vertical. We decided to take them all apart, remove the staples, and reassembly ourselves - as opposed to another return, the possibility of more broken pickets in shipping, etc. I believe the issues are at Fiberon (the manufacture), not HD. Nonetheless, BEWARE of FIberon's quality control. And you might want to just buy the rails and pickets separately and build them yourself. The pre-built sections seemed like a nice labor reducing step, but in the end it ended up costing us time.
