Rated 5 out of 5 by A very attractive and practical post cap I purchased 12 of these attractive post cap lights and am very happy with them. Of the 12 one was missing its screws and did not work when I opened the box. Usually when solar lights do not work out of the box it is the battery or the battery holder, so I opened the cover to the battery and there were the screws in with the battery. How they got there is beyond me, but when the screws were removed, the ends of the battery polished and the battery reinstalled the light worked fine. So it was 12 out of 12 good. I wanted these for three vinyl posts and the rest for 4 x 4 (actually 3.5 x 3.5) wood posts. Remember that most vinyl post are sleeves over a 4 x 4 wood post, so there is no way the lights can fit both and a work around has to be used. C bythe Sea of Charleston, SC came up with a very clever workaround. She cut short pieces off of a 4 x 4 post and attached it to the top of her inner 4 x 4 post then mounted the lights on it. Very clever! Another workaround, if the post projected up above the fence high enough to do so, is to cut off a little of the vinyl sleeve and then mount them on the inside wooden post. I was too lazy to do either of these. As I already had plain caps on the posts I just took some 5 min. epoxy and glued them on the caps. Let them dry and add a bead of white caulking, smooth the caulking flat with your finger and they look like they were manufactured that way. I know if they ever go bad I will have to replace the caps as well as the lights, but I am in my 80's and betting the lights last as long as I do. These lights look great, work well and it is nice that the ones on the wood post are the same as the ones on the vinyl posts. Some complain about the screws also, but mine worked fine. In fact I am impressed with everything about these lights. They are a great value. I buy a lot of the inexpensive solar lights - many different brands and styles - and find I get an average of two years from the batteries that come with them. Some take a little fooling around with the battery holder and/or polishing of the batter terminals from time to time. I get about three years use from the really cheep lights, ( the ones you pay $2 or $2.50 for, I have even gotten aluminum ones for $1.25) mostly the problem is that for many of them the plastic lens clouds up by that time, so they do not look good anymore and very little light gets out. But, for that price I feel I have gotten good service from them. These White Solar-Powered Lighted Composite Post Caps are a little more expensive, but not much, and look like they are a little better, so probably will give more than three years of service. And we have to keep things in perspective, one has to pay about $2.65 for a plain vinyl post cap, a fancy one would cost $5 to $6 and a fancy wood post cap could cost $10. So these are a great value and a nice looking cap and would be an attractive and inexpensive cap even if the light did not work. Then remember that the manufacture only gets about $1 for the cheaper solar lights and for this has to provide the plastic, the electronics, the assembly, the packaging and the batteries. The cheapest rechargeable batteries we can buy cost us about $1, so what do you expect. Despite this I normally get about 2 years out of the supplied batteries. Yes, it sometime takes a little messing around with them to do so, but that is no problem. I strongly recommend these lights. If you keep in mind what you are buying and use them right, you will have very attractive mood lighting around your pool or deck. Or a lighted fence that will bring raves from the neighbors and people visiting, as well as the added safety of a soft light to guide people walking at night. I know you will love them. Rated 1 out of 5 by did not fit 4x4 post they should advertise as a 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 wood post. they are misleading you into thinking they fit onto a vinyl deck or fence post. This is why they are so cheap the actual 4 x 4 ones are 10 times the price April 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very Good Product This looks great on my vinyl picket fence. i had bought the plastic glue and fixed it on my vinyl 4x4 Post cap. easy to assemble and the white diffused light goes well with the picket fence and looks stylish i waited for 3-4 months to write a review because i wanted to see whether all my 16 solar post cap would work without any issues (ie some of them giving up). its been three months now and all of them are working perfectly. they all come up around same time (dawn) and stay lit all through the night. even on overcast weather they lit up whole night (awesome) the only reason i didn't give them 5 star is that the finishing could be improved better.... but nonetheless they are great product Thanks July 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice Solar Lights Bought 8 of these on special in March and just installed them on the fenceposts in the rear of the backyard. The lights worked the very first night and give off a nice amount of light for a small glass space...just enough to mark around an unlit yard and not overwhelm the neighbors with too much light. Only drawback are the cheap screws that come with them which strip easily when drilling into the wood posts...I recommend buying a small bag of 1/2 inch wood screws. Otherwise, will be buying a lot more of these to complete topping off the rest of the fenceposts in the yard. April 30, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Easy to install These lights are easy to install but they don't work sometimes you need to tap the outer case to make the light come on. May 27, 2014
