How do you remove the top portion of the cap to activate the battery?

The manual says to "hold the button and rotate clockwise." I see no "button."

Does not fit new Pre-treated 4x4 post

Any ideas on how to get it on a new 4x4 post? They will not go on the 4x4. Our deck installer thinks if we wait a while for the Pre-treated 4x4 to "dry" out, it will shrink. Any idea how long this process might take? Has anyone else had this problem with these? Thank you!
Asked by: oswala
This fits what they call "nominal" 4x4, meaning, it fits a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 post.

4 in. x 4 in. Copper Finish Plastic Solar Powered Post Cap is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Potentially Harmful These caps look very nice and are inexpensive. However, when it rains, they leak through the solar panel on the top. Everyone of the 11 caps I purchased had this problem. The water stands inside the middle inside of the cap and rusts the four small screws that hold the bottom together. These screws are not galvanized. The water also leaks to the bottom of the cap and gets trapped between the cap and the wood post. The most important aspect of a post cap for me is protecting the top of the post. These caps not only fail to keep the water from the post, but trap it there inviting decay. I thank Home Depot for easily refunding my expenditure.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I do not recommend this device My first surprise was the fit. My desk post are slightly smaller, that the cap. This makes a lot of slop in the fit. Next I was disappointed with light level. It was very low, but at first it lasted almost all night. Until the first rain killed 8 out of 10 of my units. I took them off the post and poured out the water. Poor design light photo sensor sits in socket with 2 holes in the bottom of the socket for the wires to go through. The rain sits in socket drips inside and shorts out the device electronics. The device might work better if you sealed top photo sensor on all 4 sides with a silicone, to prevent water from getting in. Just 2 weeks and the internal parts are rusting.

I have yet to write an online review, but I finally met a product that compelled me to voice my opinion. In short - these are terrible. I bought 10 of the them. Only 1 out of 10 actually light up at night. I waited a full week to see if the others would magically start to work, but they didn't. How can they release a product with such poor quality? I am returning all of these and back to square one on the search. Thank goodness Home Depot has stellar customer service!

It looks nice in the day time but it never lit up. I think it may have lit up for 1/2 an hour the day I put it on but since then, nothing... Just more Chinese junk, that's all... I would never plan on using these for an important project. You get what you pay for. This was cheap and I didn't expect much so no harm, no foul.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value and decent quality I have had 11 of these for 2 years baking in the Arizona sun. During summer these lights last from dusk till dawn (winter they don't last as long). I have them mounted on pressure treated 4x4 about 12 feet up in the air. I have had to change out two of the batteries after 18 months. I replaced them with some 2500mAh NiMH batteries and they worked like brand new. For what you paid for, these are good lights. They have survived 120+ degree temperature in Arizona and the few months of heavy monsoon rain storms.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from failed after a few week. Aesthetically they look good but they leak and fill up with water. One has failed the other still works. Wish they would modify it and fix the problem.
