how do you fasten solar cap to post

Asked by: Midd
They come with two screws. PVC silicone around the base is also recommended. See my review on the battery terminals rusting out though.

What kind of battery does it have? Can the battery be replaced? Is there an on off switch? Does the light come on at dusk, go off at sunup?

There is no switch. The AA rechargeable battery can be replaced.

Do they come in other dimensions?

The post I have selected is 6x6. Do the solar post tops come in those dimensions?
Asked by: Deck18
No, only 4" x 4" to fit a true 4" x4" post. We had to modify the base, but it was well worth it.

They have been in place for over 6 months and work like a charm. If it is an overcast day, they don't stay on as long at night -- duh, they are SOLAR -- I expected that. Some reviews concerned me about moisture, so here is what I did: purchased a tube of clear caulking, and a packet of dielectric grease. I ran a bead of caulking around the top and bottom of the lens, removed the solar panel and ran a bead of caulking around it and reinstalled, and ran a bead of caulking around the base just before I installed on my post sleeve (which you need because that is what these are built to fit). Inside, using a cotton swab, I coated all metal surfaces with a layer or dielectric grease. Done. Works fine. You're welcome.

When I purchased them, a couple had two small LEDs and two batteries. I took the ones back with the two LEDs because they are not as bright as the single LED and it was very noticeable. Instead of using the screws, I used silicone caulk to hold it on my vinyl post. I bought one a few months ago, and bought five more after I was satisfied with the brightness.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasted two months, not recommended I installed 8 of these on my deck. These assemblies let in moisture and the battery terminals corroded to the point that the batteries and lights stopped working. Even with silicone at the base the assemble allows moisture into the light and battery area. It is only a matter of time before the terminals rust out. They could solve this with non corroding terminals but as the unit is now it does not work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be a dummy A lot of reviewers are complaining that these lights don't fit on a 4x4 post. That's because a 4x4 wooden post doesn't measure 4" x 4". These are designed for a post that does measure 4"x4", such as a vinyl/composite post sleeve used for a railing on a deck. If you want one that fits on a 3.5" x 3.5" post, buy one designed for that. Also, those that are saying "I bought a bunch if these and none of them work"- did you remove the piece if plastic that keeps the battery from making contact??!! There's a little piece of plastic at one end of the battery that needs to be removed so the battery can make contact. Otherwise it won't work. I have been trying one of these while deciding what I want to do for a railing on my deck. I'm impressed with how it looks. Definitely bright enough, and even light.
