Answer:
They come with two screws. PVC silicone around the base is also recommended. See my review on the battery terminals rusting out though.

Answer:
These caps are meant to fit into the 4x4 vinyl sleves that fit over a wooden 4x4 post that is not a full 4x4. As some noted, you can put these directly on a wooden 4x4 post, though they are not, like all lumber, full measure to their labeled size. (like 2x4's, etc., etc., etc.) P.S. My local hardware store has similar fo a little more than half the price at $12.00 each.

It fits snuggly to 4" x 4" post. The 4" x 4" post purchased at a lumbar company is, as you probably know, smaller, so has to be modified to fit other than a true 4" x4" post.

The plastic "lip" that fits over the posts is thin enough and wide enough to drill a hole and put it on with a small screw. The top of the light just pivots off so that, when you do need to replace a rechargeable solar battery, you do not need to take the whole unit off the post, just the top part. Read Less

Answer:
The solar cap should fit over the post. Holding the cap in place, drill a hole in the center, theninsert the screws. If you don't want the screws to be seen, only use 2 screws on the sides not visible.

No, it does not. If you use a 4"x4" post purchased at a lumbar company, the post will be too small because it will measure 3 3/4" by 3 3/4" instead of a true 4" x 4" post. No, only 4" x 4" to fit a true 4" x4" post. We had to modify the base, but it was well worth it.

Do not think the store carries them in those dimensions, but try going to the customer service dept. in the lumber dept. Maybe they can order solar posts in that size or give you the manufacturer's web site.

Not this particular brand but we did find a 4" x4" black solar light at our local Home Depot that fits on a post and looks much as this one does. It's light is not as good, however, but it is not as expensive either!

4 in. x 4 in. Solar Post Cap is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasted two months, not recommended I installed 8 of these on my deck. These assemblies let in moisture and the battery terminals corroded to the point that the batteries and lights stopped working. Even with silicone at the base the assemble allows moisture into the light and battery area. It is only a matter of time before the terminals rust out. They could solve this with non corroding terminals but as the unit is now it does not work.

When I purchased them, a couple had two small LEDs and two batteries. I took the ones back with the two LEDs because they are not as bright as the single LED and it was very noticeable. Instead of using the screws, I used silicone caulk to hold it on my vinyl post. I bought one a few months ago, and bought five more after I was satisfied with the brightness.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good deck light option Quality product and a good option if you're looking for post cap lights. I just wish they were a warm light rather than a white light, but that's just a preference I have. They were worth keeping because they are of high quality and they serve the purpose that I was hoping for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 3 of 4 work well I bought these to top four posts around a patio. They are easy to assemble. Fit easily on the posts as described but one of the four is obviously less bright than the others. I even tried moving them around thinking that maybe that one got less sun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be a dummy A lot of reviewers are complaining that these lights don't fit on a 4x4 post. That's because a 4x4 wooden post doesn't measure 4" x 4". These are designed for a post that does measure 4"x4", such as a vinyl/composite post sleeve used for a railing on a deck. If you want one that fits on a 3.5" x 3.5" post, buy one designed for that. Also, those that are saying "I bought a bunch if these and none of them work"- did you remove the piece if plastic that keeps the battery from making contact??!! There's a little piece of plastic at one end of the battery that needs to be removed so the battery can make contact. Otherwise it won't work. I have been trying one of these while deciding what I want to do for a railing on my deck. I'm impressed with how it looks. Definitely bright enough, and even light.
