Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. The post jacket won't provide proper support for your railing project. Your support post will need to be secured to your deck, porch or patio, then this sleeve slides over the top.

Answer:
It should work well for that. Depending on the concrete depth you may need temporarily use a slight shim on the sides of the 4x4, slid into the jacket as a support to keep the concrete from pushing in on the sides of the jacket possibly yielding a open width less than 3.5 x 3.5. This will also slow up the concrete from rising up in the jacket.

Answer:
The interior of the post is a metal support anchored to wood or concrete. The jacket is the decorative vinyl that covers the post itself.

Hello Bill and thank you for your question.
The post jacket is a 4x4 cover that slides over a fence post. Refer to the photos in the Customer Review section which show before and after images as well as give installation tips for successful results.
Best wishes on your project.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Porch Rail To build this rail system you require many separate pieces, but it all comes together fairly easy. The 45 degree angles at each post made this project a little more challenging. October 7, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cover your old post Purchased to eliminate a maintenance issue on a decorative deck. It is as described. May 24, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not the best option This product is well made and dimensionally correct, but it mars easily and does not have a way to repair nicks and scratches. Stick with wood. April 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly as expected A bit thinner walls than the 72" variety, but cut to a standard length of 39" for rail post application. Ordered from the comfort of my living room with my fuzzy slippers on and delivered straight to my door. Could not have been more convenient. September 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Post covers work very well with Veranda post install kit These are simply 4x4 covers that slide over the Veranda post install kit. They match perfectly with all the Veranda railing pieces. I installed Veranda Pro Rail around my entire patio and down my patio stairs. Normally the Pro Rail is used with the 5x5 post covers but I preferred the look of the smaller post and since all of my corners were 90 degree I could use the 4x4 post/cover. Everything worked as designed and the finished product looks wonderful. Remember this is a plastic/PVC product and all the screws go into plastic so you need to be careful not to over tighten (I also pre-drilled and ended up going through a couple of the square drive bits). Once everything is assembled the railing is very sturdy, some of my railings were just under the maximum length and even those feel sturdy. Since none of this product is stocked locally I was concerned that if I messed something up I would have to reorder and wait for it to arrive, by following the directions and being very careful everything worked fine. I did call Veranda with a couple of questions, once before I placed my order and once during installation, their support people were easy to reach and very knowledgeable about the product. Using this railing system was much less expensive than wrought iron, I believe it looks much better and it will never need painting, of course the big reason it was less expensive is my wife and I had to install it ourselves. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just as advertised. I did have to return one that was damaged. They look good and I would recommend them. September 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good. Good product. As advertised. Looks good installed. October 20, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Choices for Post Jackets I had to purchase one of each each so I could determine what the differences were as it was not clear in the product description. There are two choices in the 39" length: #73003561 sells for $11.97; while #73012475 sells for $14.47. The difference is in the outer layer. Again, you get what you pay for. The higher priced jacket has a slightly thicker outer skin. If your railing get a lot of sun and heat , you may want to go with a higher grade. July 17, 2014
