can you paint it?

Can it be painted? If it can be painted how does it need to be prepped and what kind of paint should be used?

Do Vinyl post need wood 4x4 inserts?

I recently purchased Veranda White Vinyl Windham Fence panels. I also purchased the White Vinyl Fence Post (5 in. x 5 in. x 8 ft.). I just want to clarify that I do not need to put 4x4 treated post inside the vinyl post. The vinyl should be strong enough to hold the fence on its own correct? Also the post are only 8’ and I need 6 feet above grade and I should cement the post 40” deep in my area. Should I dig my holes 3.5’ deep and fill them with concrete suspending the post only 2’ deep in the 3.5’ of concrete.
Asked by: yfzmario
Hi yfzmario - yes, it looks lke you bought the correct posts and correct, you do not need to put additional support (like a 4x4) inside the post unless you are mounting a gate to that post. The vinyl post will support the weight of a fence panel, but not the weight of a gate, please use an additional support (like a 4x4) with that post. To determine your post hole size, add 6" to the depth of your frost zone and fill the bottom 6" with pea gravel before adding concrete. Your fence panel should rest 2" above the ground.

Does this have a deck kit to be able to place this fence around an above ground pool deck?

We are putting in an above ground pool. The pool is 54" tall, and the deck will be level with the pool rail. We are looking to put a vinyl privacy fence around the deck for privacy, but I don't see any way to mount the 5 X 5" posts to the deck in any fashion. Placing the vinyl posts into the ground isn't an option, so we are looking for a way to mount them, with some sort of a bracket to the deck surface.
Asked by: Jamie
Hi Jamie and thank you for your question. Posts must be inserted directly into the ground, doing otherwise will not provide enough support for your fence panels and will void the warranty.

I want to make a removable patio privacy screen.

I was going to use 5 x 5 vinyl posts dug into the ground and then 4 x 4 post for the screen upright. Does the 4x4 fit easily into the 5x5?
Asked by: Bob
Yes they would, but you would have almost an inch gap, of which you would have to shim on at least two sides to make it more stable. Or use something like 7/16 shims on all four sides of each post. Then depending on the height you might want a base cap to slide down the 4x4 to make it look better, and make a smooth transition.

Hi Roger and thank you for your question. Our posts are not made using any of those materials. We use 100% PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) to manufacture the posts. Hope this helps.

Customer Reviews

5 in. x 5 in. x 8 ft. White Vinyl Fence Post is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Storage tube for RV I bought two pieces of this vinyl fence post sleeve to make some under frame storage for my Casita travel trailer. One will be used for the sewer hose and the other one has not yet been designated. I wasn't sure how sturdy these sleeves would be but was very pleased at how rigid they felt when I got them. the wall thickness on them is one eighth inch thick. I used some uni-strut 1/4 inch all thread 3/4 inch aluminum square tubing and some aluminum flat bar to mount them under the trailer. I also purchased the end caps that go with the post sleeves and am very happy with how they mounted. I installed some rain gutter inside of the sleeves to act as kind of a drawer. I got the idea for this project from other RV owners who have done this and thought it was a great idea. Having used uni-strut ( two 30 inch pieces ) I will be able to add more tubes if needed with a minimum amount of effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Met All My Expectations I used two of these as storage sleeves in an RV. One for a waste hose and one for a six foot folding ladder. They were perfect for my application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sewer Hose Storage! Seriously - it's a PVC fencepost. Very solid - took me forever to saw through it by hand... because I turned it into an RV sewer hose carrier mounted to the back bumper of our 5th wheel :-) RV-specific hose carriers cost over $100; this cost me (plus 2 end caps) about $30. The 5" diameter easily accommodates the hose plus the bayonet ends. Most RV bumpers are designed to hold these hoses, but the inside of the bumper is rusty and rough and eventually causes worn spots and potential holes. Trust me - when you're dumping a blackwater tank - you do NOT want leaks!!! Due to its purpose in life, it's also not something you want to store inside the RV. The smooth PVC fencepost protects the all-important "Stinky Slinky". I drilled some air holes in the bottom to help it dry; and zip-tied it to the bumper. One end cap is glued on - the other is held in place with a screw eye so it can be removed. A short piece of cord connects the screw eye and cap to the carrier.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not just bad service, but NO service of this fencing! The supplier of this fence, changes design periodically and they don't keep old stock for replacement. So no replacements when high winds damage things. My gripes and total lack of service over the few years I've owned this fence; Replacement gate hinge & latch design changed. The hinge and latch are different and don't fit well with the original gate or how it was setup. Gate design changed so new hinges don't fit old gate well. Post design and width has been changed! Someone (probably me) left the gate unlatched and the wind tore hinges right off the post, leaving 2 big holes in the post. The old post is 4 5/16" and the new post is 5". That causes 2 problems; more than likely won't have room for a 11/16" wider post to replace. If you lose a post cap, you can't get a replacement. Replacement parts are not available. What were they thinking?
