I believe it depends on what part of the country your from, I'm in PA and the local homedepot only sells 8' posts. I dug 12" dia. Holes X 2' deep, two 60lb bags of concrete per hole. 2 years and several severe storms later my fence looks as good as it did on the day i finished it.

Answer:
I used the posts that are linked to the Dover fence panel on Home Depot's website. They are a few inches longer than 8', but they're nowhere near 9'. The posts are pre-routed (drilled) with holes that the fence panel rails slide into. Make sure the holes are routed in the correct place in the posts you buy.

The posts I used are just a few inches longer than 8 feet. I recommend using the expensive metal inserts, at least in some of the posts. I didn't. The fence seems flimsy. I live in tornado alley, but I've never experienced any damage before. I'm afraid now that strong winds will bend the vinyl posts and push the fence down. In end posts, I used 8' chain link fence posts, which cost less than $20 each. In line posts, the fence panels stick in from each side of the post, so there's no room for any "inserts" except the expensive ones that are made specifically for these fences. I don't know if there's anything made that will fit in a corner post. I inserted a 4x4" x 8' cedar post into the posts that my gates are bolted too.
I'd buy the expensive metal inserts for the rails too. I didn't, and now I'm afraid that If someone falls against the fence the middle of the panel will cave in. Read Less

Answer:
The Dover doesn't ship assembled. The panels are very easy to assemble. The pieces slide together. There's no cutting, drilling, screwing, gluing, or hammering. Nothing like that. Just inserting and sliding -- kind of like building with Tinker Toys. If they shipped assembled, the shipping cost would be substantially higher.

Is there a way to affix the dover panel to a wooden post. Possibly brackets for the top and bottom rails.

Answer:
Yes, I replaced a wooden fence with a vinyl fence. I used the existing post and easily completed the project using brackets top and bottom and the slip over post. Everything can be found at the Home Depot.

Answer:
You can drill through the rails, and then run a blot through them, and into your wooden posts. The rails are 94" long, and there are ten pickets that are 9" wide each. Once the panel is assembled, the ends of the rails stick out about 2" on each end of the fence panel. The pickets can be removed to make the panel less wide. And the vinyl can easily be cut to any size you need.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great do it your self project With this fence assembly I was able to use my existing post to update my fence. July 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Next time I buy WOOD. You have to buy everything A La cart. So, it ends up very expensive. I have over a grand invested in this little bit of fence. It's tricky to assemble. And it's flimsy. I just hope a good wind doesn't blow it all apart. I do like the privacy though. And once all of the swearing is over, it does LOOK good. June 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good, but... The fence is up, and it looks good, but it's flimsier than I thought it would be. It's a shame that this product isn't sold in the store, where it can be examined closely. If I could do it again, I'd buy the metal supports that cost $118 per panel and post. That would've added $4500 to my cost, though. That's a big ouch!!! Another negative is that if dirt splashes on the fence, it really shows up. Eventually, greenery will be growing up to the fence, and it won't be an issue. I hired an acquaintance to install the fence. He said he'd installed a lot of vinyl fences. It turned out that he'd never installed one like this. He was thinking brackets bolted onto posts. WRONG! Thankfully, Home Depot has an online video, showing how to install it. It was still very stressful for both of us, though. May 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Issues with mold We purchased 20 panel kits. Each kit was in a sealed box. Several kits had green mold on the individual fence panels. Before assembling, the panels had to be cleaned and some were discolored. This was very time consuming. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by awesome all around product this is a great product for the do-it-yourselfer. I'm 54 and I installed about 300ft. of the dover Vinyl privacy fence by myself, thats around 40 panels and forty posts. (cost for an only labor estimate from a local fence company install $3900) I am very happy with the results so far, I believe my neighbors are equally as happy. Tips that may help you if your going solo as I did. 1. make sure you use your plum line! don't try to eye ball your posts in a straight line. that didn't work! 2. Dig your holes one at a time, 12" dia,- 8 foot centers, things move much faster when your posts ends up in the center of your post holes. 3. tools, post hole digger, clamps and a hole digging bar, Get the bar or borrow one, well worth the $35, 4. Home Depot doesn't sell end posts, use corner posts for your gate posts, face the opening of the corner posts outward and use the decretive inserts. Don't use line posts for your gate posts! 5. the gate hardware: don't follow the directions! install the hardware approx 3' lower than the instructions say to. getting a bolt into a picket at each corner helps keep the gate square, discovered that one by accident. 6. Don't buy or order this online, Home Depot has contractor prices if your buying in bulk, I saved approx $600 off my purchase by going into the store. they ran it through what the sales associate said was a contractor bid. 7. Have it delivered, best $79 you will spend, the less you have to move bags of concrete the better. 8. let nature harden you cement don't waist your time and energy mixing it. July 16, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't have end post...extra cost for decorative covers. I haven't found any end posts. why? I don't wanna pay extra to cover up holes on corner posts. February 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WE LOVE THIS FENCE!!! BUY IT!!! We wanted an attractive privacy fence. We shopped. We rode up and down allies looking at other people's fences. Nothing compared to this vinyl fence we'd originally seen at Home Depot. It's now installed and gorgeous! This fencing is elegant, easy to install, and a very good quality. July 31, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dover Gate Kit The quality of the materials is good and i believe they will last. It has been easy to assemble once I have the right parts. I bought two of the Dover Gate Kits. Assembly of the first one was went great. The second one I opened was missing the gate jamb caps, and the machining to the jamb was incomplete. Home Depot replaced the kit no problem. I go to assemble the new gate and after drilling the holes for the hinges and brackets the included bolts are too short. I call the customer service number on the bottom of the instructions and I am told I have to go back to Home Depot to get this straightened out. I guess I will be returning this kit and be getting #4. Seems like a good product but bad customer service and quality control. November 11, 2015
