Answer:
Thank you for your question. The beauty of a composite is it does not require painting, staining, or sealing to maintain its appearance. The pickets are highly textured, and 50% plastic, so no, paint does not adhere well to them. We do not recommend painting them.

How are the veranda pickets secured to cross rails?

The pickets are hollow and in trying to keep one side looking clean (no screws) it seems special screws will be needed to grab very little material from the back side of panels.

Answer:
We purchased gray screws to match the weathered gray color I purchased. There was no hiding the screws. We pre-drilled and countered sunk the holes before screwing them all the way into the cross rails. We also measured all the boards to have the screws in the same location for a neat and orderly look. I don't know of a way to hide the screws completely.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. The pickets are not hollow, they are solid, and are attached using 1 1/2" staples in a box style pattern to hold them to the rails.

Answer:
No more than 1/2 inch. That's plenty to allow for expansion and will give near total privacy.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Privacy style installation requires a 1/8" gap between the pickets to allow for thermal expansion and contraction. Total privacy can be obtained installing the pickets in the board-on-board fashion.

Answer:
The colour is the same all the way through. The UV inhibitors are also all the way through so there should be no more fading in the center than there is on the outside.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. The pickets can be cut, and the color is the same throughout. There is not a UV protection applied to the pickets, so cutting will not affect it.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Overpriced and poor quality They are warped, cuts are uneven, packaging was terrible. 1 out of every 5 was usuable. Returned almost all pieces. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Installation Good product. Very diverse patterns so looks natural. Installation was very easy. Didn't have to cut so don't know if it chips or not during cuts. May 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Composite fence picket Boards are light weight and well done. My criticism is they are not standard fence board height or width so if you have to tie into an existing fence the boards are much shorter March 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Look Used to close in the bottom of deck. Looks great. Easy to work with and should be very durable. December 29, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Very easy to cut and holds screws reasonably well. Looks great! November 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great! Great product. Used these to build a gate. Easy to cut & install. Much better than using wood; none of these were warped! It looks stylish & no painting. Planning on constructing a pool pump enclosure next with this product! August 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great replacement for real weathered wood fencing The texture and coloring of the gray weathered fence picket is really good. I had to replace some rotting real wood fencing and decided to give this composite a try. No staining or added protection needed. The pickets are thinner than regular fencing 3/8" thick vs. 5/8" thick and shorter but when put up it looks great. We measured the new fence rails and made a template so we could pre-drill the composite fencing in 3 places. We were able to pre-drill 3 pieces of composite fencing at a time. If you try more than 3 they tend to slip and the holes are not as accurate. I will say after a couple of weeks in the sun the color gray slightly faded to a bit warmer gray/tan. But since it is just about maintenance-free, I think it was a great replacement and will buy more as my real wood fence needs to be replaced. One thing we did to offset the height of the real wood vs. these shorter composites was to keep the tops aligned with a string when installing and kept it up off the ground a couple of inches. For me this was fine because I just want to keep out large animals, as a bunny is going to dig underneath anyways. It was also good to keep it up off the ground so the weedeater didn't mar it.
