Hi Tom and thank you for your question. We do not recommend painting your vinyl products doing so will damage the finish and void the warranty.

Answer:
Hi Tom and thank you for your question. The nominal length is 8', but the actual length is 91". The brackets will add to the length, so you'll need more than 91" between your posts, complete measurements are in the installation instructions on this page.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Railing Kit works great I installed Veranda Pro Rail around my entire patio and down my patio stairs. Normally the Pro Rail is used with the 5x5 post covers but I preferred the look of the smaller post and since all of my corners were 90 degree I could use the 4x4 post/cover. Everything worked as designed and the finished product looks wonderful. The install did take longer than I anticipated but we got faster as we gained experience. Remember this is a plastic/PVC product and all the screws go into plastic so you need to be careful not to over tighten (I also pre-drilled and ended up going through a couple of the square drive bits). Once everything is assembled the railing is very sturdy, some of my railings were just under the maximum length and even those feel sturdy. Since none of this product is stocked locally I was concerned that if I messed something up I would have to reorder and wait for it to arrive, by following the instructions (they were included) and being very careful everything worked fine. I did call Veranda with a couple of questions, once before I placed my order and once during installation, their support people were easy to reach and very knowledgeable about the product. Using this railing system was much less expensive than wrought iron, I believe it looks much better and it will never need painting, of course the big reason it was less expensive is my wife and I had to install it ourselves. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by beautiful and durable product Bought everything online and had it shipped to our home. Our contractor had never installed vinyl railing before but was quite impressed with how easy it was to work with and how it turned out. It looks great and is very sturdy! August 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by porch rail we recently expanded our porch and got rid of the old wrought iron railing. I found the Pro Rail handrail and loved it. Came in the mail right on time. Kind of easy to install. we love it! September 9, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Very attractive, but no hardware included. The railing itself was well designed and is very attractive. However, there was NO Hardware (brackets, etc) included with the railing. There was also NO mention that I saw on the web site that a hardware package was required for installation. As a result, I had to make a 40 mile round trip to Home Depot to buy brackets. As this store did not have this railing, I had to use some regular hardware brackets, which worked fine, but VERY INCONVENIENT. July 7, 2013
