Do you have to pre-drill the holes before putting the screw in place?

Answer:
I would recommend pre drilling and countersinking them. You still might cam out the heads.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. Pre-drilling is required at the ends of the boards, but is optional elsewhere. It will provide a cleaner appearance if the holes are pre-drilled.

I need to make an adjustment on my deck steps (Veranda Composite) that I have installed using the STAR PAN-HEAD BROWN COMPOSITE DECK SCREWS. Is it OK to remove and reinstall them? Do I need to put some kind of sealer in or around the screw?

no sealer needed, if you can get these to work twice, good luck, I had trouble driving them once without cam out of the head

Thank you for your question. You do not need to use any type of sealer around the screw when removing and reinstalling. The screw should be reusable, but you may want a few spares on hand in case any strip.

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ron I used stainless steel and the heads split due to poor quality. Found many screws were not properly formed and had splits in the head which spread before seating. Impossible to remove. August 17, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Heads cam out. They match the color of the composite decking. But about 1/4 of them cammed out.. I didn't finish 10 boards befor I brought them back. I tried pre drilling and countersinking and still had the problem. Will try stainless square d next June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect screws for the Veranda deck boards. The enclosed drill bit fit great and there was very little slipping. Bit lasted for entire container of screws. May 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy with product Worked as should have. Very happy with this product. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ARMORGUARD #10 X 2.5 IN. STAR PAN-HEAD BROWN COMPOSITE DECK SCREWS Great product. Going to build more. Would like more information on the product. March 1, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Miserable screw fastener Very poor head design will cam out on about half the screws, , This prevents them from being unscrewed or driven farther. used a milwaukee drill driver made for just this work. Spent most of my time removing stripped, half driven screws with pliers. Save your money, buy a good star drive screw by a different manufacturer. December 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great match These screws are a perfect match to the Brown Composite Deck I bought. They grab the wood nicely and do the job. The only complaints that I have are they only give you one star bit in the 5lb. box, which you are mostly like to strip out if you don't apply steady pressure and go slower then you might normally. That being said, once you figure the pressure and speed to screw in the board, the screws are great. I agree with other reviewers, you should pre-drill through the deck board to make life easier. It's not necessary to drill into the joists just the deck board. May 31, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good choice. Color matched the Veranda Brazilian Walnut decking. Work well, but pre-drilling recommended. The screws pull down boards and hold tight. Use a variable-speed drill to avoid stripping the head. Bit comes in each container of screws. They come in small round plastic contaners and were not easy to find, but if you go to the right store with the right personnel, you can find them. Some of the brown color on the screws chipped a little, but overall a good choice that I would choose again. October 14, 2013
