Dear TomR: "Capped" refers to the manufacturing process, wher a layer of glossy white plastic is joined to the outside of the gray composite substrate. This "cap" is much thicker than paint and very tough, so you will never need to paint this railing. (As long as you like white, of course!) This "cap" is much thicker than paint and very tough, so you will never need to paint this railing. (As long as you like white, of course!) I installed this on my own home in Massachusetts, and after three New England winters it looks as good as new; we just wash the dirt off. So we recently installed the same Regency capped composite on a deck along the shore. It has been there for only a year, but salt spray has not affected the finish either. In short, a great product.

I hope this is helpful,

Dear Dicky: As the Veranda rep noted, simply radius the end of the rail to match your round column. The narrower upper bracket works just fine, even on smaller round posts. The bottom one is wider and you can bend the 'ears' on either side to fit a round post with a smaller radius.

Attached is a photo of the bottom rail and bracket we mounted on a round post. The 'ears' on the bracket were slightly

Answer:
Thank you for your question. We do not offer a bracket for attaching to a column. If the column is at least 10 inches in diameter, the railing could radial cut and the line brackets could still be used. For smaller columns, an alternate rail may need to be chosen.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. It will depend on the slope of the ramp. The stair rail brackets can accomodate the slope, but the balusters may be loose in the holes if using the stair rails. The line rails typically only accomodate a 90 degree angle and not a slope.

Dear DeckDude: Yes - Veranda composite railing is easy to cut. Just use a fine tooth (e.g. 90 tooth) carbide tipped circular saw blade, with a cut-off or miter saw. This is a great railing product. It never needs paint; just wash the dust off in the spring.
A couple of tips for installation:
(1) Install the brackets on the top and bottom rails 1/16" back from the end of the rail. This will pull the end of the rail tight to the post when you tighten the screws. If the brackets are flush with the end of the rail, this will create a gap. We use a small builders square with a thin piece of cardboard taped to it, to quickly align the brackets with this offset. A photo is attached.
(2) Stainless steel is softer that standard steel and the driver bits tend to 'cam out'. Always drill pilot holes as noted in the installation guide, and drive the screws slowly and carefully. If a bit cams out, immediately back the screw out and try again with a new one.
I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your question. Yes, the rails can be cut down, and you should cut equally from both ends to ensure maintaining of baluster spacing.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Product name lies - not 8 feet long I needed a rail that was 94 inches (7' 10'') long. You would think a 8 foot long rail would do the trick. It doesn't if you buy this one. The actual length of this railing is 92 inches. I feel that the product should either be labeled as 7'8'' long or they should make these 8 feet long. I did use some of these for much shorter sections and they were nice and not too hard to install. I am just livid over the duplicity of the product label. August 22, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Package was deceptive. I needed an 8ft rail. Package said 8ft. Was 7ft 8in. Misleading... August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sturdy and beautiful The rails installed quite easily. There was a tiny bit of chipping when we cut the rails to length. A dab of white nail polish covered the chips so they are not visible. We had to order a third kit to finish our deck but that was a function of the dimensions of the deck not a deficiency in the kit. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Veranda Composition Deck Railing High quality and very easy to work with. Only drawback is the fastening screws . Easy to strip. Would be a great benefit to have extra screws in package, or better quality heads to avoid stripping. Ross October 14, 2014
